Hi I have a 2005 280 sundancer - I have found this large red wire behind the main board in the cabin that appears not to be connected to anything.

My question is could this have been used to power the ac cycling unit ? mine doesnt have that option installed under the galley seat but wondering if at the factory the electrical guys fitted as standard so when a boat is ordered and that option is added then its astraight forward hook up.
Here is the wire in question.

Many thanks for any help you can give ( Iwill also post this in the electrics thread)

Great question! From the pics, your wiring looks clean with no corrosion and unmolested. That is a big plus with a 16 year old boat in a marine environment, especially since it looks like you are possibly in salt water (not sure, as your locations is vague)...

As to your original question, the heavy red wire looks like it is attached to a single pole buss bar of sorts, with some smaller mounting screw(s). The larger center post that the wire/cable is attached to, may be a voltage link or a voltage feed. Knowing where that wire/cable goes to is important.
Then,... is there anything attached to the back of the center post?

The wire should be labeled. As it may be difficult and require some removal of some interior, you need to find out where it terminates. Question: When testing it with a meter or test light does it have 12 volts? If so, disconnect it and se what doesn't work anymore. It most certainly actively powers something.

Has this question not been asked by you and answered. Thats a 12 volt connection.

No this question was NOT already asked and answered by me. I have made only one post on this thread, #3. One post, one question. I know this is a 12v line and that it most certainly carries a significant load due to its size. I am just trying to help this club member troubleshoot his system by finding where it goes and maybe what it powers. It will hopefully answer his question and if not, he may learn something by finding out what it actually powers.

Korkie, I believe Bahama was referring to Jon in post #4. Jon had started two different threads and was also answered (definitively) in the other thread.

Jon, sometimes it gets confusing when there are two identical threads going on. Pretty much everyone on here uses the "new posts" button - meaning, no matter what sub forum you post in, a thread will get the same amount of views regardless of what sub forum it is in. Just a heads up for the future :)

That definitely looks like a 12v wire and heat/ac systems are not 12v so it would not have to do with your air conditioner.
