Spyder Cracks at 3 Deck Hatches (photos) Should I run ???

You should ask @fwebster whether his had any such cracks. I noticed you posted a few more pictures on The Hull Truth that show the cracks going completely from the hatches off the deck and down to the walkway. To me that looks like significant softening of the deck. You got some feedback that you could repair the deck if needed. If you are thinking that would be cheap and look good, you are mistaken. It sounded like your Trojan is your pride and joy. That cracked deck will bother you for every minute you owned that 450. Find a better one.

My boat had no stress cracks anywhere on the forward deck. The only cracks we ever had were in spots where the gelcoat was sprayed a bit too thick, mostly on the transom door entrance to the cockpit area. We repaired them as soon as we saw them and they never came back.

I knew the propensity of large Sea Rays to develop stress cracks in the corners of the bow hatches and we pulled our hatches out and re-sealed then about every 5 years. We also pulled the windlass out and sent it back to Good for a rebuild in the 5th year we owned the boat. While it was gone to the factory, I resealed the hole in the deck with West Systems epoxy. so we never had the typical SR windlass moisture issue.

Our 1995 450 had no stress cracks anywhere. I think something has happened to cause them or there is some soft spots from water. Personally knowing how well that year boat was built and seeing cracks like that, I would run forest run!!

It's literally about 20 minutes to remove a hatch and get eyes on things. It'll save the guessing. Now, if the owner doesn't want to do that - yes, walk away. But he'll likely need to do that for anyone interested in the boat.

Hope y'all are not planning a painful initiation
The boat will be all the pain you need. Happiest when its running great, saddest when its not. Good choice moving on. To me that looked like two fold (no pun on the large ladies) 1) dry rot core and 2) weight on the top deck over causing through cracks.

Since i waiting for a cold one from slow barmaid, i agree above, no crazing any where on deck, some on transom corners that can easily be explained by exuberant docking.

Let not your heart be troubled, I walked on this one.

That said, looks like I will become a member of the "club" very soon.

Hope y'all are not planning a painful initiation.

I can find a million reasons to reject every boat for sale. I seen today where a guy on book of faces was asking top dollar for a 30 DA with new interior. The friggin thing has bare plywood interior replacing every damn structure, countertops and wall. Balanced against the crap out there, not sure i be quick to walk away from this one.

I need to find the link and post. I was like WTF.

I think you did the right thing, our '89 440 has nothing of the sort. Patience will serve you well...best wishes for your search.

I did pass on the boat above.

Had a purchase contract on another 450

We stopped the survey upon finding a wet transom and other water intrusion.

Still.............. love the 450.

The search continues.

I'll post a new thread on this as time and info permits

For now, I remain...

MAYBE ........ a Dancer
