48 DA Owners Club

I'm interested in this. Someone previously had posted about this, with pictures, but for the life of me, I can't find it. I'd enjoy seeing how you do it.

I'll admit it...it was me. Post #1979.

Thanks,

You guys need to start moving those boats south for the winter…. Condo on the water 80 degrees and use all winter.

I would love too… unfortunately work would keep me from getting to Florida enough to justify the costs for getting and keeping her there all winter.

I replaced both 3" exhaust hoses and let me say, it was a real b_ _ ch to remove the old hoses. They were shot for sure and I am hoping this solves my mystery water leak. Installing new hoses was cake. That's one thing checked off the to do list for next Spring.

First I apologize in advance as this post may irritate a few Captains out there as it is a couple of months away, but kinda need to start thinking/planning on it now.

Christmas Lights. Any thoughts on the best applications for our boats? Any pictures and install tips? Thanks in advance.

Come on man… way to early.

I am looking to service my heat exchangers for the first time since ownership. Does anyone have experience on this and can provide some guidance or tips? It does not look like the cores can be pulled out with out disassembling major components (alternator on the aft side or turbo exhaust on the forward side)?

Thanks,
JB

Learning to post photo's . Fingers crossed !

OK, water pump impeller change question....I was specifically looking at the Starboard engine impeller access. I don't feel like it will be too hard to get to. HOWEVER, I noticed that the engine SIMM (?) is right there by the impeller. Is there enough clearance to change the impeller with the pump still mounted on the engine? Or do you need to remove the pump from the engine and work on it on the bench?

It is the same on the port side motor. I think it pops right out using the extractor bolt. Starboard side is a little ackward due to position but I would do the port side first to get the process down then do the starboard from what I learn. A little dish soap and should be straight forward. I will do mine in January. I can tell you compared to my old 3208's in my Princess these look like a piece of cake.

Jaybeaux it’s pretty easy to do using a extractor bolt. You will bent over the top of the pump but very accessible. Definitely lube the impeller and housing when installing the new one and once you get it lined up onto the spline just use your leverage to pull it into the housing.

I used a wire tie for the first time the other day about half way up the impeller ….it started a lot easier then just cut it off when you reach it… also used dawn

@ocgrant , @JB MARSHALL , @Blueone ....thanks for the responses. This impeller replacement is going to be a bit easier due to splined impeller as opposed to keyed impeller on the 6CTAs. I do have an "extraction bolt" that I was using on the 420 and have already confirmed that the bolt fits the impeller on the QSC 540's. My major concern was getting the impeller past the SIMM. I will "practice" on the Port side as it is more accessible. Thanks for the encouraging words.
