500/520 DB official thread

It all doesn't need to be installed now. You do need a means to configure the Skylla but their "dongle" can do that with a laptop. Then the issue becomes you get a taste of the cool stuff and the sucking vortex opens up your wallet.... Trust me I know.

Yeah I know that drill too… Installed the Skylla 75(3). Haven’t connected to the Garmin yet, sounds like there are several ways to do it. N2K, Direct Lan Connection (HTML5 App). There are advantages and disadvantages of each connection and you can use both. Victron also suggests their GX products for the most options and integration such as the Cerbo but I don’t think you need it.

I tried to find the data also to attempt to repair but no luck - strike one; also couldn't find one to purchase - strike two. Both the sender and display were fried anyway - strike three. So I ended up going a different direction with a Maretron level sensor -

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone on this forum. You all have a been a wealth of information and I am finally getting my 2005 500DB sorted and back on track. What an amazing boat and this thread has so much information!

Unfortunately, my Bose Lifestyle 48 head unit in the salon is starting to act up. Earlier this year, I noticed the dreaded 801/802 error and recently, I have been getting uncontrolled volume increases. All the way up to 100! Has anyone else experienced this? Or have a fix? I'm assuming the bad hard drive is making the entire head unit wonky.

Also, is there a somewhat straightforward way to upgrade the Bose head unit? I have read online where you can splice the proprietary Bose wires to work with a standard 5.1 receiver. I am interested if anyone took this project on themselves. Thanks!

I had found out that the impedance of the Bose Jewel Cube speakers isn't a standard 8 ohms so you would need to use caution selecting a receiver that will work with them, if you could find one. Also the Acoustimass sub is part of the Bose power amp so you would have to acquire a new subwoofer. As for performance the Bose Jewel Cube speaker frequency range is rather high so with a standard subwoofer you will have a performance dip at the bottom of the Jewel Cube frequency and the top of the new subwoofer.
When my Bose remote controls were acting up I was considering replacement of the system; but then I got them talking to the system again. I had selected a Yamaha RXV-6A which is a 7.2 channel home theater receiver. This receiver would power a zone 2 (master stateroom) as well as input/output to the Fusion audio for the outdoor stuff. Then for speakers I selected Definitive Technology ProCinema 6D speaker system for the solon and a sub and Definitive speakers for the MSR. I have these at home and enjoy them. The speakers are not than much larger than the Bose cubes so it would work great to replace the Cubes. The receiver, like all other modern receivers, integrated the HDMI network I have for all of the televisions throughout the boat and would make it easy to switch the signal sources. For everything (in early 2020) I was into the system for less than $2300.
The down side of the Yahama is the remote is IR (not RF) so to turn on and off the receiver you need to be in front of it. However, all other controls can be from a smartphone or tablet.

Thanks so much! It must have been a lot of work getting this up and running. Well done!

Wife took a shower this weekend. Periodically, I hear a beep. I think it's my neighbors boat as I'm sitting on the dock watching football. After several times of hearing it beep, I realize it's coming from the bridge. I run up and look at the SeaRay Monitor. It says forward sump alarm.

I ran down and looked at it. All looked in order and it had not overflowed. Is it normal to sound an alarm when its working?

The monitor alarm is from the fwd bilge Pump that is in a sump near the washing machine. It is on the center line of the boat to the right of the washing machine and water manifolds. On my boat there is a panel to the right of the washer that I have to take off to access it. Any leaks from the heads or water manifolds ends up in that bilge. If your shower sump is not leaking at all then it is a leak in the drain system or supply plumbing. If you put your head in the hatch that the shower sump is in and look back towards the stern, at the end of the tunnel is the sump.

I wish mine had a panel to access that pump. It's is a serious pain to access on my boat.

Good info! The alarm said forward shower sump and it alarmed while the shower was going. If it was the bilge, wouldn't it say bilge not shower? Not trying to disagree, just wanting clarification.

Maybe you have a high water alarm in your shower sump? I don’t have one in mine but they changed things over the years. I also don’t have system monitor. My boat just has high water alarms and a panel with alarm lights so maybe that changes the setup?

Has anyone considered replacing the Bose with Sonos? I think all that’s needed would be a router everything else is wireless. I had to replace my sub as stated it is an important part of the puzzle I found one on Craigslist for $100
I know I’ve seen used Bose head units also may get you by for a while.

I replaced the salon Bose system with a Bose sound bar 300. It sounds good in the space, The sub is Wireless so no new wire runs and it has airplay 2 so I can play music on my phone on that in the Fusion. I like the Bose because it had a sound bar to go under the TV. I don’t know if Sonos has a sound bar but their systems would do the same thing.

I am looking to upgrade from my 320 Sundancer to either a 48 or 520 Sedan Bridge. Any comparisons would be much appreciated. There are things I like about the 520 but not sure the the difference in price is worth it.
Thanks for any thought you may have.

Has anyone had the pleasure of loosing their anchor? I'm in search of a replacement and I'm having trouble locating something comparable to the 60lb stainless one I recently lost. I've found a 55lb Lewmar, but the width is way off what I had.

If anyone has replaced an anchor any feedback would be much appreciated. I reached out to a local Sea Ray dealer and they can't get my anchor any longer, however he was going to try to find out who used to make them for Sea Ray back then. Thanks

I didn't lose mine but the original was bent when I bought the boat so I replaced it. The original on my boat was a 60lb Stainless Kodiak and I replaced it with the same. I had to call South Coast Marine Products to source the new Kodiak . (727) 573-4821. Make sure to put a Mantus anchor swivel (or similar) as this is the biggest failure point on an anchors system.

I appreciate the info, and the bolt between the two shackles broke to your point!
