What kind of winch came with your trailer?. I have a 2018 Sea Ray 19 SPX and came with a Karavan 2300 pound. The winch is broke and I need to replace the entire winch. I found one with 2000 pound, not sure if this would be good or not.

Boy, that's something you don't hear very often - that a winch actually breaks to the point it can't be fixed. Are you sure you can't just replace a part?

But, yes, a 2K rating is plenty.

Thanks for your reply. I pulled the boat without any issues. I stop on the HWY for other reason and I noticed a small separation between the boat and the winch. When I tried to tide, the handle broke. I called over 30 places today and no one have this kind of winch. I called Karavan directly and they have a 2000 lbs 1 speed winch. I'm new with boating.

OK, it looks like the pin on the winch is fine - it's just the handle that spun out/broke? I would try getting in touch with Knott, rather than Karavan. Karavan is likely only to have the whole thing - whereas Knott is the manufacturer. Or find a local (or online) shop (try your Sea Ray dealer) that has Knott parts. However, you might also find that a Dutton Lansing or Fulton handle will fit it.

Thanks. I called Knott today. They don't have any in stock and the guy will check in Hungary. Also I called Karavan directly and they are the ones with the 2000 lbs. Attached the winch. Looks very similar, just 1 speed, no idea the differences, and the lbs. 1500 difference sound a lot for me. Do you have a 19 spx?

I have a 19 SPX. The "winch" is actually a combo winch / winch stand. How I hated that contraption. Unlike most setups, you can't just replace the winch with a competitive model.

I replaced the whole thing with a heavy duty stand and a power winch.

Where are you located?

Hello, I been very hard to find the same winch. I found one directly from Karavan but it is only 2000 lbs and one speed. My motor mechanic told me that 2000 lbs will do the job. I'm located in Ruskin FL. Close to Tampa. Can you send me a picture on the one you have right now?

Mine is a 3400# trailer and it came with a single speed 2000# winch. It's the model shown in your screen shot. What's wrong with that? Since you broke one of the shafts, why don't you just use the other speed?

My new setup has a power winch, but it could also be fitted with a hand cranker if desired.

The shaft that broke is the one with the handle. The handle is what broke. You think 2000 pound will do the job?

No, but a winch is a winch is a winch - it's not rocket science :)

If you can't find the exact handle, try what I mentioned above. There's no reason to replace the whole thing when a simple handle replacement could fix it.

I don't know if it'll do the job, but apparently Karavan does since that's what they put on my trailer.

True winches are winches but this animal is in a class of it's own.

You have a detachable handle. What broke is the shaft. Push on the button on the end of your handle and the broken shaft end will fall out. Then move the handle to the shaft that controls the other speed.

I did it but I see now that shaft that is broke control de big one.

Disregard some of what I said above - I thought there was only supposed to be one shaft sticking out from the winch and the other hole was the adjustment for the two speed part. If I'm understanding correctly, there is supposed to be TWO shafts sticking out.

If you can't just use the existing shaft and you run into problems getting replacement pieces for the winch, then you're back to just replacing it. As I noted above, 2K is MORE than enough. Way more.

Thanks. That what I'm trying to find out, if 2000 will do the job.

FYI, I've worked in this business for over 30 years and am a lifelong boater... yup, 2K is plenty ;)

Thanks for your help. I ordered the winch today.
