transom (2).jpg
View attachment 112752 I was given some bad news yesterday. This summer I developed a leak spot on the interior transom in the bilge. My fiberglass contractor checked and says the whole transom is gone and needs to be cut out and replaced. Has anyone gone through this repair? Here's a picture of the spot. Estimate is $15,000. For some reason, the picture came out upside down.

Wow, I have not heard of that being an issue, has he determined where the water intrusion is happening. As far as mounting hole for a trim tab, or under water light would be an example. I was under the impression there was no coring below the waterline, so this def is not the norm, as far as anything I have heard

btw, if you slightly crop the photo on your phone (before loading to the post) it wil maintain the correct orientation

The boat is still in the water until next Friday. Now I have to decide who is going to do the work.

Big decision, I would probably have to pull mine to the Ozarks to get that type of job done, I don’t know if anyone has that skill/experience around here

I have 2 choices. An older guy who is the fiberglass repair shop at the marina and a younger guy who my mechanics works with. I think I'll pick the younger guy that the motor shop works with. All the work can be done on the hard at the marina, but since there is so much that the mechanics will be involved with I'll take their recommendation.

Thanks Sam
Would you see water around the water heater if the safety valve was leaking? Would that also explain why the fresh water pump kicks on for just a split second and then shuts off. It does this about every 2 Mins.
It could make the water pump cycle. It indicates a water leak somewhere. I found the fittings begin to leak over time, especially in cooler temps. Sometimes you can work the pressure relief valve and it will reset. It's a cheap fix though and easy to do on your own.

Thanks
I tried to lift mine but it would not budge. I will try it again this weekend.
My seat has a collar that has to be loosened before it will adjust. It looks like a J- handle on the front of the post.

What type of glue is used to hold the little plastic pins that cover the screws on the interior panels?

What would cause Tranny Fluid to look like Strawberry Milkshake?

I came out of the water today.
So the first fiberglass guy gave me an estimate of $19,000. The next guy is coming on Monday. We'll see what he says.
Man good luck with this, I am curious to the root cause of this, Mine is a 2001 on the same lake and I was out checking mine with a hammer after I read this. I hope the quote today is much better fingers crossed.

Possible leak in the tranny cooler allowing cooling water to mix with the fluid
That what thought
Looks like a Pretty easy replacement and not to bad of a price so I will be changing the cooler this weekend.

thanks

Please post the part numbers and how it goes, I have the same boat…. You gonna do both, typically when one goes? The other is on borrowed time… lol

I'll be going with the second guy. He said, he can't give me a firm price, but it will be less than $19k. He will be bringing it into the shed at Belle Maer and removing the swim platform and then he will know. He did find wet spots, in the 30% range. I'll keep the thread going and let you guys know how I proceed. He did say that it was a great boat other than this.

It will be interesting to hear the cause.

Good luck!
