Official 19SPX/21SPX/SPX190/SPX210 Thread

Does this sound right?
I have the 150 OB, the prop is 14.5 19 pitch blackmax.
When I push throttle all the way the rpm's go to 6500, significantly past the 5800 rpm spec.
Tried it with trim all the way down as well as trimmed up slightly. both smooth and light chop on water.
thanks
You should be running about 5700, no problem. I have the same rig and that's what VesselView shows. My tach was off by the same amount as yours. After checking the tach specs, I found out that the dip switch on the back was set for the wrong engine.

You can barely reach the back of the tach from under the dash, using a miniature screwdriver. Its a Fariah tach. Their web site shows the configuration and they have a chart showing the position for many different engines.

Great info, I raced out and took a picture, took me a minute to see the adjustment near top of tach. Found the Fariah chart like you said.
Such a shame the factory didn't set it right, and the dealer tech didn't check and fix on their incoming test drive.
Maybe it would be set right for the 115 motor.

By the way, I heard that on a different brand of outboard, that the water pump impeller would be damaged if it was started when on the hose flushing is being done. Mercury manual says not necessary to start during flush, but doesn't say it will hurt anything, any thoughts on that? I am good not running motor , just curious.
Thanks,

Hi, just got my 2022 190 SPX yesterday. The sales person and I noticed that the chart maps weren’t showing the large lake next to me at all. Specifically Lake Travis in Austin , TX

I figured how to add an SD card and update the Simrad system , sync it with the mobile app , and it even said it updated the charts but no luck.

The Simrad mobile app shows the lake fine and all needed information. It’s just a massive 20 mile dead zone in Austin and that doesn’t make sense?

Anything I’m missing?

Sorry can't help with your posted question. Wanted to connect though. I'm about to pull the trigger on a new SPX 190 and I'm in San Antonio. Just wanted to say hey!

Hi! Well I can give you all the headaches I’ve been going through.

FYI love the boat, had a lot more storage than I thought, and does well for its size.

1. My simrad system wasn’t updated from the dealer. Have them do it.

2. If you do have to update , you need a 32gb micro SD card. Or if you are computer savvy you can partition a larger card to MSDOS FAT 32 file system in 32GB chunks.

3. After arguing with my sales and dealership , they called sea ray and confirmed that the boat should have active trim if you have the simrad screen at least. I couldn’t get them to budge on the fish finder even though sea ray lists it as a feature. I believe it’s supposed to be there but ask your dealer.

4. Make sure you get everything on the boat. Mine had tower racks , only showed up with one. Had to get them to find and confirm there should be two.

I just tested the boat yesterday with the SE 400 hydrofoil and the boat planes faster and bow rise is much lower. I also put on a quicksilver nemesis 4 blade prop this morning and will let you know how it is

Thanks for the info. Hence I didn't get whatever a "simrad" is! LOL! No worries there.

"I just tested the boat yesterday with the SE 400 hydrofoil and the boat planes faster and bow rise is much lower. I also put on a quicksilver nemesis 4 blade prop this morning and will let you know how it is"

should I just START off with that different prop?

No. First try the boat as is. My boat never needed a different prop, hydrofoil, Trim tabs…Nothing! Perfect as is from SeaRay. They’ve been doing this awhile now Sometimes these forums get your head spinning

Apples to oranges comparison, since we have the 190 with the 150 Outboard, but in my case the boat definitely does not need a 4-blade prop. Since our engine is cantilevered "way out there" my guess is that its just as back heavy as the I/O version.

I prefer the design of the Doel Hydrofoil and have had one on every boat for close to 40 years. Our 190 comes on plane with ZERO bow rise. Best performing boat I ever owned.

I am also a fan of SS props and got rid of the OEM Black Max as soon as I got reliable data. I went with a Mercury Enertia and calling that prop fantastical would be an understatement.

Thank you! That was my thought...

Again. Get the boat first.

Yes! Exactly! It's made to "wow" to begin with. I'm not a performance boat racer or an avid boat person at all. This is my first "real" boat and my first boat in over 25yrs, so all-in-all, I'm a full-fledged newbie!

I'm trying to decide on this ceramic coating deal. Many say it's worth it....

You were replying just as I was. Note to others that you also have the OB version.

I agree that the boat needed nothing. Right out of the box it was the best performing boat I ever owned. But nevertheless, the Engineer in me always likes to experiment.

The Doelfin and Enertia prop simply took a perfect boat and made it better. I saw improvements in planing, top speed and fuel economy. Specifically, +3mph, -4% prop slip and +10% fuel economy. I didn't need those improvements, but it sure made me happy....LOL.

Sounds good! I will keep this in mind as I learn the boat. I know myself... and I will likely want to improve some things once I'm comfortable and understand much more. When I do, I'll message ya! ;) Thank you for the good info!

Do you guys trailer these things or keep them in the water?

I AM an avid boat person, but not a racer either. My profession as an Engineer is optimizing chemical processes and reducing energy consumption. My Consulting business has merely spilled over to my hobbies.

Ceramic coating was applied to my current car as a freebee by the dealer. Knowing what i know now I'll order that with any future cars I buy. It has saved a lot of time that I used to spend washing and waxing the car. However, I'm reluctant to put it on a boat because mine are always garaged kept and detailed after each use. If you store a boat outside in the elements it might be worthwhile if the price was right.

Answered in your other thread but no, it’s a huge money maker for the dealers. And in this market, they are making enough. Coat of good wax is all you’ll need. Pretty easy to wax a 19

Yea, I have it on my truck and it's nice to have. I've learned that it also depends on what actual product is used and how it's applied. As an engineer, you can likely attest to how tricky it can be to apply. My concern is that the "dealer" sells you the package... a package that you cannot see. Trust in dealer plays a role here though.

I'm still working out storage for the boat. I won't take delivery until next season (Feb/Mar) here in South Texas. This will be fresh water only.
