Seeking Bristol 1996-2000 450 Sundancer

Sea Ray hull numbers are only sequential within the model year so your 1998 would not fall between the hull #'s assigned to the early 1997's built with the galley on the port side of the hull. Us linear thinking engineering types don't understand how or why Sea Ray production folks chose such a random hull numbering process. It is what it is and I cannot explain it except to say that the hull#'s are assigned at the factory level, by production model years, probably a decision made by an IT guy.
Sounds like Fender and Gibson in the early days. I think they were blindsided by the amount they would have to build, and were never thinking of way down the line with people trying to figure out exactly which year this was made. '98, hull 523. Does that mean the 23rd hull in May, or the 523rd hull of 98?

That looks like 50/50 so I'll go with 523rd hull of 98 MY.

I was set to go see the one in Jacksonville, the broker was going to get the most recent survey from the owner.

The broker fessed up yesterday to say that one engine has overheating issues, the HVAC is NFG and the canvas leaks so badly that the cockpit is now green, as is the salon.

Owner lives up north and is irresponsive to the broker who is frustrated and feels that he is wasting his time.

Broker didn't want me to waste my time either, with both of us sweating while looking at the green tinged cabin.

Owner is clearly not motivated.

I thought you are just trying to get on a 450 at this point, see how they look/feel? Why worry about whether or not the owner is motivated? I assume the broker can get you on the boat. Moldy headliners don't change the layout...

We get this discussion about 3 times a year on CSR where people get up in arms when they think the hull number has something to do with when their boat was made. This is kind of a funny topic because the hull number is stamped in the transom right below the HIN# and the HIN number clearly contains the month of manufacture and year model of the boat, and the middle 4 digits of the HIN# is the real serial number of the boat.

Yup, know about that. So what is the Hull 523 written all over everything? Just to assign all the pieces parts to a particular hull on the line that were assembled elsewhere I assume. I was curious on what 523 meant. 523rd 370 built in 1998 at Merritt? Or, 523rd hull overall coming off the line that year? Seems like a lot, but maybe not.

Will likely make a run to the one in Jacksonville first week in October.

This might also allow the broker and seller to have a meeting of the minds, but the jury is out REALLY OUT on that one.

Meanwhile, we continue to check Boat Trader & Yacht World daily

Don't forget facebook marketplace. Not as good as search as the real sites, but a lot of boat are selling thru it.

This may not be helpful given your budget aspirations but a 99 450 just went up for sale this morning in West Michigan. They are asking $180k for it. Seems a bit extreme but I suppose it is fresh water..and has a hydraulic platform :)

THANK YOU for the lead.

I will check this one out.

Will see the JAX one first week October

Based on what I have read here and on other forums, the hydraulic swim platform is actually NOT an asset, however it can be easily changed, or just left in the UP position.

BEAUTIFUL BOAT

Sadly its galley to stbd

Wife INSISTS on the island berth forward

Y'all know that saying. . . happy wife.....

I think when you go to sell it you’re going to find it harder to sell without a swim platform that’s hydraulic

I do really, REALLY like the bigger platform

Idk, the picture makes it look like an island birth, no?

Photos and the Sea Ray floorplan show the galley to port version features the fwd berth being offset, thus limiting the access as compared to the island berth on the galley to port version, thus limiting access.

This is a non-negotiable item for the Admiral.

I am currently very seriously considering the most perfect, well maintained 450 priced at the top of the market, however her 3208 engines give me pause. Please take a look here:

BEST !
