420 DA Thread

I had the stock ones with that bar setup and didn't like it at all. It would "flex" like you said and wasn't comfortable. It could also only hold one position.

I like this setup MUTCH better!

Thought so. I like that set up too. There's about $1k in Starboard and hardware there. What boat is that on?

Chief, my thruster batteries are between the engines just aft of the forward bilge pump. This is the way my 2007 44DA was set up when I bought it.

So, the two batteries I have between my engines are the bow thruster batteries? I have two batteries on the outside of each engine, which I assumed are the engine batteries. Does the gen set work off the pair on the port side? What about house batteries?

I'm on the Potomac and can recommend an excellent surveyor if you need one. Let me know.

Oh that’s great to know, if I get that far, thanks! This boat is on the Occoquan River. Is that nearby?

My 420 had 3 batteries on the Port side, one of which was dedicated to the Generator. Two batteries in parallel for the engines; and I "believe" that the "house batteries" were the Port batteries, but I would check that before taking it as gospel. Yes, the batteries "between the engines" should be the bow thruster. They are probably wired in series creating 24 volts for the thruster.

Those images make sense of how the factory hardware gets utilized. It appears that the back rests are soft and flex when you lean against it and would like to know if that's an asset, or liability when considering comfort.
It appears that the few back rests I've seen on newer boats have solid back rests. What's the opinion on which would offer more comfort? Since I'm starting from scratch and could go either way, all feedback would be appreciated. Thnx
Honestly the sun pad doesn’t even come close to these awesome bean bags…..MUCH MORE VERSATILE AND MUCH MORE COMFORTABLE!

You’re correct Jay…. The 2 on the stbd are for that engine, the 2 in the middle are the thruster and the 3 on the port are the gen set (aft battery) with the two forward for the starboard engine and house bank.

Brewster - post a pic where you store these if you have them. Thanks.
I won't be back to the boat for 2 weeks. But they squish/mold into the port and starboard gunwales between the lower windshield and the bow rail. They're secure and don't blow away when running the boat but they also have reinforced vinyl "handles" if you care to bungee them in place. Yes, they have to be stepped over if your walking up to the bow. But they are a wonderful addition to our boat these past 2 seasons. We throw them down on the dock for additional seating and we also use them on the beaches and sandbars we hang out at. Yes, we keep our sunpad out on the bow too, but these bean bags provide additional seating. And they are super comfortable to sit in!

Understood, good point. I had insurance lined up for the Formula 40PC that I just walked away from due to the issues discovered by the engine survey. But they were concerned, since I was coming from a 29’, so I’ll check again since this ones 42

@Shark and @swaterhouse - I did the exact same step up ... I previously had a 98 Sundancer 290 and upgraded to an 05 Sundancer 420. My insurance is Boat US / Geico and they didn't give me any trouble about the upgrade (I had the 290 for 10 years ... and previously had an '85 25' Century Mirada for 7 or 8 years.)

Does anybody have an idea where this outlet, which is behind the helm seat and powers the cockpit TV, gets its power from?

It’s a factory installed outlet. All my breakers are on, but it’s dead.

Probably a gfci tripped down in the salon. Not sure where it’s located in your boat
