40 sedan bridge forum

All of a sudden my dockside water doesn't work. It blasts out of the hose at my home marina, PIB & KI, but once I connect the hose to the boat, nothing. It's worked fine for the past 2 months.

Has this happened to you? Any ideas where I should start diagnosing? Want to get it done before we head to PIB for the day with friends on the Whaler.

Thanks in advance!

Possible pressure regulator stuck closed or clogged.

Of course there are others.

Question for other 400 Db owners. After the recent hurricanes that went through New England bringing torrential rain, I notice water on the floor of the master head. On further examination I found that it had come from the electric outlet on the underside of the medicine cabinet.

Any thoughts as to where that water could have come from? No other leaks on the boat from rain. Thanks!

I’m betting it’s the front windshield. My and a local friend had it done and I get zero water in there or on the dash anymore.
Check the area along the windshield on the starboard side.

Ok, I will look there. how do you get it resealed?

I had water from a rail seal in the shower cabinet. pain to fix! LOL

another general question. My 04 does not have a drain plug. has anyone had this issue? and if so did you add one and where? and also what model? if you have one already where is it located? external removal or T handle?

I don’t believe larger boats typically have drain plugs. If I get water in there, I run the bilge pumps by hand and then just shop vac my bilge to get any remaining water out. My boat stays in the water over the winter so no need for a drain plug here. I do add a bit of pink to the bilges for the winter.

I don't have that type of hookup on the boat, but maybe I'll swap it. Thanks

I had to change mine out last month. The water would flow fine and then just stop…another thing to check is the screen on the washer. It is like a washing machine washer. I have had it get gunked up before.

Thank you. I'm having the marina swap it out this week unless I get to it 1st. I had that type of hookup on my past boats, but not this one. It can't hurt. There also wasn't a rubber washer w/ screen on the fitting when I bought the boat, IIRC the regulated hookup has it. If not, I'll get one.

I had this exact problem several years ago. The port light in the shower needed to be rebedded...a fairly quick and painless job. Once that was accomplished, the leak promptly stopped.

I have started getting some water in the storage area under the port bunk in the VIP stateroom. The center bilge (under the starboard bunk) is bone dry and the windshield has been resealed. I am guessing it is coming from either the port light in the stateroom or working its way back from the one in the guest head.

I figured I would start with the forum. Has anyone ever had water intrusion under the bunk?

For your safety please refer to my post in general maintenance forum "Need help with rudder access". Are you inspecting it twice a year as Tleflex calls for? Has anyone found a way to do it?

I had water under my bunk couple of weeks back. Mine was caused by a clogged drain hose from the HVAC drain pan under the steps in galley. I found the bilge pump under the bunk to be fully functional…pain to get to.

Has anyone bleed their hydraulic steering? How did you get to the ram? Is removing just the gen exhaust hose enough?
I wouldn't think you would need to. Air bubbles should work their way to the helm where you can bleed the system using the port on top of the wheel reservoir. I had to bleed mine every year as the steering got a bit spongy. I got a rebuild kit and replaced seals on the helm and it seems to not be an issue anymore. There is a kit which consists of a hose with adapter for the reservoir on one end and an attachment to a bottle of hydraulic fluid on the other. With the hose attached, Tip the bottle (poke a hole in the bottom for air) and rotate the wheel lock to lock several times until all the air is pushed out. You can see the air bubbles come through the hose/tube.
