Continuing from my other thread. My prop shop suggested ACME and Michigan DQX. I heard good things about both. I also heard that ACME are thin and will bend easy. Are the DQX's any better in that respect?

I have ACME's on my boat and have been very impressed. The previous owner put them on in 2018, he changed pitched due to a dinghy he added to the back of the boat. I had 0.040 of cup added this winter and they had no issues doing so.

From what I understand, they are milled out of a solid brass block. Sharp looking props!

Got a email from Acme. Here is there recommendation. Waiting on a price.
part #1055-18.00X23.00C LEFT-HAND 4BLADE 1.50 BORE .075 CUP & #1054--18.00X23.00C RIGHT-HAND 4BLADE 1.50 BORE .045 CUP.

I just got off the phone with deep blue yacht. They told me acme and dqx will not work with my boat. Huh… I said why and he said the acme and dqx only have 70% blade area. They will not be efficient. Anyone ever hear of this? Weird for him to down sell me. Said I need SeaRay props.

That's what I thought. But the short answer to your question is yes- blade area does matter. Veem props for example are in the 97%+ blade area ratio. I'd think the DQX and Acme would be higher than 70% but have to check the specs on them. Not sure what he meant by "searay props". Searay doesn't make props- they get their props from prop companies as well.

I think he was referring to Teignbridge.
Funny because acme and 2 prop shops near me recommended using 18x23”s. It’s been proven they work well.

sferguson727 put Acme props on his 340DA years ago. Do a search, should find lots about it from him. He thought it was the best thing he ever did.

Wow - people are still reading my blog posts!
The Acme props were fantastic on the 340. I also had a spare set of props for my 340 - the Teignbridge 18 X 22s that I had re-pitched to 18 x 23.
The Acmes were superior in every respect - reduced slippage, slightly improved economy, and better low speed performance.

Anyone have a good place to get a set cheaper then ACME at $1905 a piece?

I'm even thinking of going with Teignbridge props again since I know they are proven good on my boat. Maybe save some extra money.

Watching… also looking at new props. Expensive either way!

Curious if there are performance differences. For me as a cruisers, cruise speed/fuel consumption would be the most important characteristic.

I ended up ordering the Michigan DQ486. They are the exact same replacement SeaRay put on. I ordered them with the same 18x22 and 18x22.5 pitch with a #8 cup. I am very happy with the performance of the Teignbridge I have. The ACME were $3810 and the DQ are $2700 out the door.

Who did the sizing?

I'm currently over propped (wont make WOT) and I can either repitch the current ones (Original to the boat I think), or put a new set on.

Current is a 22"x23" Nibral with an "L" cup.

Acme is recommending a 22"x21" with a .075" cup.

Looking for specs on a DQX.

Both Acme and DQX have their +/-. Acme are supposedly thinner and great props but easily dinged and are alot more expensive. $2700 each vs $2100.

I did I started with the stock 18x21 with a small cup. Over the last couple years I worked them till I got where I wanted. Those specs ended up being the best.

So did anyone put on the ACME props with 8.1 engines,, Would love to hear what people are getting.. And what specs they ordered

Here is direct from ACME

We’re coming out with 18x23 4-Blades with light/mod. cup when we have it plugged in at 4450 RPMs. We have this exact boat in our test data and these props they even gained some speed which it looks like you’ve got excellent speed now but it’s possible you could even get a little more. If you wanted the boat propped closer to 4600 RPMs we’d go with something closer to 18x21 4-Blades with mod./heavy cup. Based on the sizing and our testing data, we’d recommend part #1055-18.00X23.00C LEFT-HAND 4BLADE 1.50 BORE .075 CUP & #1054--18.00X23.00C RIGHT-HAND 4BLADE 1.50 BORE .045 CUP. We’d have to modify the cup to .045 Cup on #1054 right-handed propeller. We unfortunately don’t have these on the shelf right now so they need to be built. Lead times are running about 8-weeks. If you’d like the boat propped closer to 4600 RPMs, let me know, and we can look at something different in terms of propeller part numbers/size.
