420 DA Thread

I've been reading up on the air horn system and I'm about to pull the TV to access the compressor (which I've eyeballed from the access panel in the closet behind the TV) My question is, does the system have an accumulator tank somewhere on the 44DA or is that tank (which I read about) only found on larger boats with bigger horns? If it is on the 44DA, where is it located?
We terminated the SeaRay horn. pretty weak. Added the Kahlenburg K-380 horn kit complete with compressor, tank, valves, switches, and tubing. We did buy additional tubing as we mounted them atop the hardtop.
Just forward of the hatch. To say the least, they get attention. I can shoot some pics if you would like.

This weeks agenda. Add GFI outlet to bilge, Add same to port arch and pull new TV cable as well. Moving Tv from behind captains chair to Port Arch. New JL amp in bilge near batteries and new Stereo speakers. Re-work raymarine network cabling for the two E120w's. Always something...

Blueone.....what did you use to get your sea strainers back to brass? Mine have turned green quite quickly after cleaning them with a product that worked somewhat but I'm not thrilled.

Goofing around in the bilge this weekend….fixed the damn freshwater pump …again. Pulled the grid heater harness. Then decided to clean the bilge and do some touch up paint on the engines. I thought I had Cummins paint but it was the canvas white stuff from Home Depot…. Tried a couple of spots and it is basically an exact match…was very happy with it. Simple green for the bilge did a nice job but was pretty clean to begin with. Disclaimer any over spray you see it was from previous owner :)

That must be the advantage of fresh water…I have never touched them

The green is normal in salt water, however I would strongly suggest you use an ohm meter and make sure they are actually bonded to the main stern zinc. I found my strainers turning green quite fast on my 44DA before I sold it and ended up replacing about 6 to 10 ring terminals on the bonding wires because corrosion was so bad there was a huge amount of resistance between the zinc mounting bolt and the actual strainers and other bonded items. In a couple of cases the wires broke as I was removing them.

Scott - So I presume the general maintenance would have been to remove and clean those bonding wires periodically??

The only way I know is to first clean well with soap and water then spray using a household plastic spray bottle with diluted hydrochloric acid (10% pool acid in water) then rinse while brushing and rinse again then rinse again. If someone knows a better way, I'm all ears!

On the ones that broke it was the wires that broke.

I found most of the connections quite clean, however the wires were corroded in the terminals. Most were okay 2-3" up the wire and there was enough in the loop to cut and put on a new terminal, those that weren't I replaced the whole length of wire - most are under 3' in the 44DA as almost everything that is bonded is right there at the transom.

I am finding the same issue in my 58DB, but the wire lengths are much longer as stuff is spread out.

The bonding wires are mostly #8 wire, the larger stuff is #4 wire. I purchased a good crimper that can do small stuff all the way to #8 with heat shrink terminals and a cheaper crimper to handle the #4.

Can anybody who has the optional cabin table and ottomans tell me if they have the starboard pieces seen in this photo on one or, both of their ottomans?
Only one of mine have it and I have to lift the one without it over the table base when sliding it back under the table.
It appears the piece is there to make up the height of the base and it slides in without having to lift it. I am thinking of fabricating one for the ottoman without it.

Hey guys, my recently purchased 44 Sundancer was manufactured with forward bow cushions with the tilt up back rests, but the PO said it was missing when he purchased the boat.
Has anybody had a bow cushion fabricated from scratch, while reusing the factory hardware, which I’d like to reuse if the factory design was functional. I’ve have never got the chance to see one with the tilt up backrests up close and have no idea how the poles function.

We are currently having some custom ones built now. They will tilt up and have 2-3 positions. They are huge and not cheap. They will fill the recessed area between the rails as the OEM ones did. Will post a pic when we actually get them. Should be in a week or so.

I can text you pictures or email if you leave me some info here. I have several pictures of my factory cushion & back rests. I dont know how to put pics on this page.

Thnx Bennet. A few positions would be a great option. Please post photos when they’re done.

Ash, I’d like to see your setup. If your images are in your phone… log onto this forum on club Sea Ray with your phone and just copy and paste the images.
If you can’t get it to work, I’m can IM my email address to you. Thnx
