Happy & Meaningful Labor Day (a wee early) to all!

2018 SPX 190 - talk about, “a grain of sand in the eye of an elephant!

Q - CAN ANY ADVISE THE BEST ADHESIVE PRODUCT TO USE A “Pin Prick” AMOUNT OF, TO RE-ATTACH A SMALL PORTION OF A FACTORY EMBLEM TO OUR HULL?

Background: Wiping the hull down after a wonderful weekend of delighting family and kids on the lake, I caught an edge of one of the numeral badges on the back of our boat with a microfiber towel and bent / cracked one of the “legs” of a letter “X” … Arghhhhhhhh! What a way to end an otherwise perfect weekend , sheesh !

Anyhoo, I tried pressing the “leg” back onto the black adhesive the factory obviously uses but, the plastic “leg” just pops back up and away from flush flat like the remainder of the emblem. Photos attached.

Complicating things a bit, I am also trying to figure out what the black stuff is the factory uses to attach these type emblem letters to the hulls as that will tell me what I’m trying to affix the backside of the plastic to (which like has a residue of that black factory stuff anyway).

Adding to my challenge is the fact I can only move the bent “leg” about a 1/64” away from the surface so, I imagine I’m going to wind up using a toothpick or dental pick to apply a small “dot” of the right type of adhesive to the backside of the “leg”

I am sorta just sick over this as this badging is EXTREMELY PROMINENT as soon as one hits our dock … aye yi yi, what’ve I done?! AC5AAC63-FF4A-4FCF-9B79-DF553EB478EE.jpegAC5AAC63-FF4A-4FCF-9B79-DF553EB478EE.jpeg1E9DBDCC-05BB-4243-BCCC-D179894E3B99.jpeg8EC8B400-9742-40C4-95DA-D1CCE700968D.jpeg

Those are peel-n-stick (basically... foam, double-sided tape). You could try a small piece of double-sided tape (NOT foam... tape is thin) and "maneuver" it into postion with a tweezers. Or, don't worry too much about the size of the tape - just cut the excess off with a razor blade - just "score" the tape and then rip it away. You could use a plastic razor instead, if you're not comfortable with a metal one.

I think, though, just about any decent outdoor glue would work if you want to go that direction. Just look in the aisle at Home Depot - you'll find something. Don't overthink it, though, I don't really think there is a "best" product since many will work just fine.

Or... worst case, you can buy a new decal set and just replace the X - they're not too expensive. Actually, you might want to buy a set "just in case" since, eventually, the decal set will no longer be availble.

It's overkill, but when my side emblem fell off I put it back on with 3M 5200 adhesive since that's what I had available. It's been on the boat for over a year now and solid like a rock.

Good morning Lazy Daze (I was a-hopin’ you were up! :p ) and Chip S - much appreciated and I will see if we have any 5200 or double-sided tape …

(LOL, “don't overthink it,” - I was raised by a Navy pilot AND an OR nurse - most often it seems I can’t not overthink everything (seriously, it can be a curse but, it kept me alive for decades in a previous life!

I’ll ask our oldest again if he has any 5200 open or the best double sided tape I can tweezer into position; he’s in auto parts at a dealership where they do a lot of their own body repairs … asked him last week but, he’s so busy during the week I was reluctant to bug him again (he obviously forgot

Hey! I LIKE the idea of having a spare set on hand (I’ve learned to stock up on a lot of things when they’re available …) are they something I can find easily on the Sea Ray site or, where does one get the best price on the right set of emblems? (I’ll start searching the interweb now but, if you know a site off top of your head I appreciate it!)

Morning, Thor!

So... looking closer at your pics... and you probably already know this... that dent/damage could make it tough for something to keep it stuck back down. All depends on much it's resisting being bent back. Possibly you can work that dent out a bit and maybe the existing foam tape will end up still being sticky enough then. The "stickiest" thing will be the 5200 - but you're going to need to keep it taped down for at least a couple days - longer if you don't use the "fast cure" version. I can't imagine the 5200 NOT working - it's just an expensive fix - probably a third of the cost of a whole new decal set!

You can get the decal set from any dealer - this is your part number if you want to search around, though: 2246451 I don't know how successful you'll be, though, since Sea Ray part numbers are internal - it's not like there's a huge online database for parts like there is for cars.

I've been known to overthink things, too. I catch myself sometimes spending WAY too much time researching something when it's often faster to just get 'er done! :)

I use E6000 for all my gluing needs. It clear and stays clear. Works great for reinstalling canvas snaps that pulled out of fiberglass. Ace Hardware or Amazon.

Could try gorilla glue gel. I’ve had some success with that for intricate pieces when worried about glue run. Just a little dot should hold.

I’m willing to try; and, THANK YOU SO MUCH for that Part # - after replying earlier I spent a TON o’ TIME trying dozens of search term combinations and never even came close to finding these plastic “chrome - appearance” raised letters and numerals.

(LOL, our local MarineMax staff ALWAYS “loves” it when they hear my voice on the calling end of the line - yay! - this time will not break my streak! Hahahahaha!

ooooooo, Lady, didn’t even know about E6000; and, the local ACE proprietors are sorta friends of ours so, this is a plus!

Hi, Wink! I didn’t know about the GG “gel” either although I have tons of experience using the regular Gorilla Glue (which tends to “foam” and expand a bit as it sets, don’t about the gel you mention but obviously the regular GG a I have a big jug of on hand would not be a good idea for this particular application.

Thank YOU ALL also much - oy vey, if I could only turn back time to right before I hurriedly started wiping that towel back and forth across her transom!

I have a friend that is a master modeler and builder. He uses this for all of his model building. And for very fine detailed stuff too.

Looking at the photos, and how that is a metal top with a plastic or foam underside, your never going to be happy with it. It's always going to be an eye sore to you. Either replace it or remove it and get a decal. Like an oversized "X" in a wild ish font and maybe a contrasting color that matches the boat colors. Had the same issue with the ol Suburban. Something hooked the S and I never liked it. Removed the whole dang thing and cut it up so it just said "Burb". Got all kinds of comments while out and about. I finally got a factory "Limited Edition" to put on it.

Heyyyyyy there … now you have me considering replacing not only the “X” but also using an “E” to replace the “P” in “SPX” …

- I mean if you got comments on “BURB” just think of the attention having “SEX 190” - on the back of my wife’s boat, no less!

PS - thankfully, it is not actually any alloy - it’s just “plastic chrome” for lack of a better description …

Speaking of shiny stuff - if there is any silver lining to this cloud it is that now my wife sees it is not safe for me to even assist her in cleaning …anything! (LOL, I can’t say I thought of let alone foresaw this unintended consequence but nevertheless, mebbe I oughta write a survival guide for other hubbies! :)

I have done "hybrid" embroidery where I stitch over screen printing. And I have seen some "hybrid" decals where they use the factory style with a flat decal of different color that stands out very nicely. As for the Burb, well I refused to pay the price for that large trim decal. It has been there for about 12 years. The last three it has sat parked. Got a more pocket friendly vehicle and can't even sell it for cheap. But still looks as good as the day I put it on.
