48 DA Owners Club

Ok, so worked all week on designing this in my head and hotel room. Got home and assembled, looks good

Went to the boat today and started with a flush of every hose and system... A shout out to @ttmott for the tip on the Home Depot Concrete and metal etch fluid for $17 bucks a gallon, that stuff works as good a Barnacle Buster. Did a flush of each line using a mini brutt bucket on the outside of the boats exhaust outlet with a sump pump. Got a ton of crap out of the lines and my legs fell asleep holding the bucket for 30 mins on each line but well worth it

Then tackeled the fun of installing the new pump and manifold. Thank god for my daughters boyfriend and his mechanical abilities + being young and flexable. He was able to get this thing installed without removing the batteries and watermaker. Tight fit but worked perfect.

Here is the good news... all AC's running much cooler and the water flow coming out of the exhaust port is huge now... This was a well needed upgrade for me down here in the heat of SoFlo.

We are focused on a 48 for now! Found a freshwater beauty and going to look at it next Thursday! Captain Rusty knows the owner - says he is meticulous. I love that word!!! Praying this one works out. We have someone looking at our 340 the day before we leave.

Super excited! Survey on our next boat happens on Tuesday! If all goes well, she will ship the week of September 6th. Looking for thoughts / experiences regarding shipping … with or without shrink wrap?

Where are you shipping to/from? Shrink wrap may be worth it to protect it, but a really good detail may be all you need depending on the distance. Some say the shrink wrap catching highway wind and slapping the topsides may be more damaging to the gel coat than road dust and bugs.

I agree with Sooliman if you are not going that far I wouldn't waste you time or $$$. Once you get it to your location and on the hard I would pay a local detailer to do a complete buff and wax before you drop her in the water. I shipped my last boat from Newport Beach CA to Miami and that required shrink because of the time and the winter conditions crossing the country. Good luck can't wait to see some pics of this one... I hope this one works out for you!!!

I shipped from Fla to NJ and had it shrink wrapped by guys who shrinkwrap heavy machinery. For me, it was worth it. You spend all this time finding a beautiful boat and then leave it to the road elements. That didn't make sense to me.
A lot of shippers will tell you not to shrink wrap as they don't want to be responsible if the shrinkwrap was to tear.
Remember, your boat will be shipped stern forward, with the cockpit exposed... all kinds of fun stuff will get in there. For me, it was a no brainer.
I'll dig up a pic and attach it. The quality of the wrap and the job will make the difference in the shrinkwrap lasting over a long haul.

I shipped mine from Nashville to Michigan and had only the cockpit shrunk wrapped. Used a fantastic shipping company that disassembled the radar arch and re-assembled it when it arrived. I believe the cost was around 11K.

Hi Danielle
Take photos, lots of photos, detailed photos, of the entire boat before and after it is loaded on the trailer and get an accounting of the parts and pieces they removed. Share all of that data with the trucking company and driver; they will take better care of you. Obviously, get the insurance in place and confirm in writing who is carrying the risk for prep, loading, unloading, reassembly, and sea trials at destination. Make sure for that boat it is an Agreed Value policy.
Always have it wrapped if long distance; otherwise you will be cleaning road grime, mud, and soot for the next couple of years.
They (the company preparing the boat for shipment) will probably remove everything above the arch - don't let them cut any wires; things will never work right again if they do; Sea Ray put connectors in all of the wiring at the base of the arch.
They will probably remove the propellers also; again photos with the serial numbers.
If it were mine I would have the boat cleaned, bottom painted, and waxed before transport if the marina is trusted. If, god forbid, something happened to the boat during transport the insurance adjustor will take into account the condition at transport; every bit counts.
Good Luck
Tom

OC - Which model pump did you use? I recall it was 1500 GPH...120V or 240V? I think they can be wired either way...

Anyone know what bulb sizes go in the anchor and stern lights on our boats? I want to swap them out for LED but forgot to pull them out and take them with me to order the right size.

Just FYI got off the phone with Bomar / Pompanette and ordered some flipper dogs and new gaskets for my bathroom porthole windows and wanted to post the part numbers and order info on the list here for future reference. 6 week lead time to manufacture and ship but available.

P100-35 Plastic Flipper Dog $7
P100-130 SS719 Flagship portlight seal $28
