My shore cord is gone. None of the liveaboards on the pier saw anything. Cant say stolen because (pic) its routed thru the cockpit and the snaps / zippers are all snapped, i doubt a thief would take the time to button it up. Its just weird.
That said, anybody have a great idea to keep my next $120 cord from disappearing?

Security camera is all I can think of.

Only because you said that it was all buttoned up I’ll ask…

Are you sure that it wasn’t borrowed and you don’t know it yet? Practical joke?

The reason I ask is a dock neighbor lost it recently when he thought his 8’ step ladder got stolen from under his boat. I had just driven by and seen it under there a few minutes before.

It was borrowed for 15 minutes and put back.

And thats a possibility i am hoping for. The ‘yardman’ there is going to ask around. I not ready to call it stolen yet cause of reasons above.
That said it was an old style cord and i always fought with that ring on narrow threads. New marinco cords are EEL eliminated the ring. Very slick so I wouldn’t be heart broken, i just dont want a new one walking.

Who "borrows" a shore power cord. You could really mess up a dude's boat like that. A hose, a ladder, etc. I could see. But an attached shore power cord?

Well that blows! Our power posts have these covers that flip down and they take a padlock so you can't get to the business end of the plug but no one locks them from what I've seen.

There is a 250 behind me (to the left) and she runs the shore power cord inside the canvas too.

I have a couple of those yellow screw-down clamps that keep it in place on the dock. That works for me since I never take the cord with me. You could try that or even something basic like what would hold conduit in place. If someone really wants to steal a shore power cord they would move on to the next one that is easier

Thats great idea. Those electric clamps. Instead of screws i can thru bolt thru pier. Make a real pita to try to remove. Thanks.

Gotta say, said before, this is all very weird. Many live a boards. We dont lock our boats. Right now my keys are down there in the ignition. For something to disappear is almost incomprehensible.

I know. I was spitballing.

Theft seem unlikely but maybe things were buttoned up to make things less conspicuous.

I like the through bolted cable clamps idea but simpler is large screw eyes in the dock with the cable through a padlock (in the eyes) in at least 2 locations. No way to unscrew it all with 2 points of secured attachment.

You wouldn’t need access to the underside of the dock and it’s easy to undo if needed.

My marina flooded in 2018 and the water went up 5 feet in as many hours. Boats with securely mounted cords had problems.

That would make a good story for another thread. What happened? We're on floating docks so my advice for clamping down the cord only applies in that case.

I recently had my dock hose and nozzle stolen. There are security cameras and 24 hour guards so I felt this wouldn’t be an issue for us but it was. I have a vacant slip next to us so I liberated the lock from the dock box and my new hose is now secured.
As far as my 50’ shore power cable, I used about 10 zip ties with the screw mounts to attach to the wood strip on my dock next to the concrete. I figure it might be a deterrent.

That is weird for sure.
Maybe try bicycle lock a loop of cable to base of aft table and tight enough that the pronged end can't be pulled through?
Nice color scheme on boat ;)

Wait, so the cord is gone but your camper enclosure is all buttoned back into place like nothing happened?
