410 Sundancer/Express Cruiser and 400 Sundancer/Express Cruiser **Official Thread**

Anybody ever try to stuff a Isotherm Cruise 85 or larger fridge) in place of the original Norcold DE-451 in the cockpit of a 2001-2004 400/410? The Cruise 65 will fit no problem, but its smaller than the existing one (2.2 cu ft vs 2.7). I'd like a little more room if possible. The 85 is 3 cu ft.

Currently, the DE451 sits on a 2x4 to allow air flow under/around it, and the floor to the top of the flange it 24 1/4". The Cruise 85, needs 25" to the top of the mount flange. Obviously this will require some cutting (if there is room).

I'll measure next time out, but curious if anyone has installed something a little bigger?

If your old one is still working, let me know if you upgrade, my icemaker is dead and I think I would prefer a cockpit beer fridge anyway. :)

Brad had trouble with that icemaker from day 1.
Debating whether to replace with another icemaker or put a fridge in. I found a couple drop in Whynter units that for $400 can't hurt. But if Dave is shitcanning a working fridge maybe I buy his. Still love this boat. Finishing the new dash panels now and just had the cockpit seats re-done.

The patient is out of the boat and on the operating table...she’s got a cracked inner liner, broken door shelves held together with a steel plate and JB weld. The door lock is long gone. She is low on coolant but I think this might be terminal, the high pressure tube looks to be steel and rusting through along most of its length. I’m going to add some coolant and see if I can get through the season, but after 21 years, there comes a time.

Especially when the beer is luke warm. No bueno!

I bought a small counter top ice make from Costco earlier this year for $80...makes enough ice for a couple people, more than that, I’m buying a bag.

I replaced my ice maker with an Isotherm Cruise 42 - 1.5cuft. I assume the 410 has a very different fridge cabinet layout than the 400 as there's no way you could get a bigger one into the 400. The Cruise 42 fits nicely but still requires the compressor to be remote-mounted.

With some inspiration from another thread around here I piloted a low dollar rear shade on my 400 last week. Overall I'm quite pleased with the result. I used paracord and clips to secure the shade as you can see in the photos. A 10x10 shade fit quite nicely with just a slight bit of bend in the poles. It's not as slick as a zip-in setup but for $100 I'm thinking this will keep me happy for a season or two.

Well...I got the fridge cooling again. Seems the fan failed, and it was low on gas.

I bought a replacement fan, a bullet piercing valve, a fill gage/adapter and a can of 134A all for about $35. I think the fan was the biggest issue and its a 24V DC 80mm fan. This is almost identical to the original (made by same company). I think any 80mm 24V DC fan will work.

Hopefully this will get me through the season...

I saw your thread on that. Nice job. The 410 was built around the Norcold DE451 (mine is about 21 years old). Everything I can find is a different size, so I'm going to have to either go samller or stuff a slightly larger one in.

The area I have to work with is about 25 1/2" H x 21" wide to the outside of the trim flange. I measured today assuming I was going to have to buck up for new fridge. I am leaning towards a Isotherm Cruise Elegance 85 will just barely fit if I cut the bottom out where a grill is now, and I still may have to trim the top of the flange.

The Cruise 65 is smaller in width so I'll have to trim it out somehow.

I know this is a 3 year old post, but did you ever find a solution? I installed a new water pump to no avail.

Sorry for the delayed response. Been out of commission these last few weeks with back surgery.
But the answer is no, I never came up with a solution and have been living with it.

You guys think I was due for a gen impeller? Our Gen has 116 hours and I wouldn’t be surprised if this is an original from 2002. I just ordered the heat exchanger gasket so I can go fishing for fins upstream

Mine eats impellers…about 2 a years or 50 hours whichever come first.

any clue if the side of the heat exchanger closest to the impeller housing is the raw water side? It looks like it based on the hoses, I’m sure the fins got stuck there

Yes. One bolt, the cap comes off, and there are 3 chambers…

right on, thanks. Next up are both fuel filters. Plenty of deferred maintenance but it runs well, I’ve put 30 hours on it this year so far

I keep a few of those little fuel filters that are in the pill bottle looking filter housing on board. That little filter clogs up very easily if you're trying to get your fuel tanks clean. I finally have my tanks where the filters are red when I check the racors thanks to Franks fuel treatment regiment. I run my gen a lot, I can tell when that filter starts to get a little clogged up as I will get some soot around the gen exhaust that makes a mess of my waterline.

Not sure if your gen is the same as mine, but I suspect it is. When changing that impeller, I found it easier to just remove the entire housing vs trying to work in that small area. I also keep some extra screws for the impeller cover and a gasket that goes between the pump and the housing on the gen side.

yeah, next time I will, that impeller was a PIA

Interesting on the fuel filter - I know for a fact they have never been changed since 2002, and I also get a good ring of soot on my exhaust, so I'm excited to change them out this weekend
