Celina to Knoxville TN. Cumberland River to Tennessee River

I’ve got some paper Corp of Engineer charts but mostly I’m using Aquamaps on an iphone8.

I did a number of evening/night boating over the 4th of July in the pool above Chattanooga and used navtronics. It was great. They had a couple day free trial so I used it through out the weekend. It was nice not having to rely on my spotlight skills to locate the buoys.

Enjoy your trip.

BTW Chester Frost Park is a great place to overnight and they have strong wifi.

Tomorrow we are paying to have our 270 Sundancer hauled from Fort Loudon Lake to Celina Tennessee to put in on the Obey River just above the navigable portion of the Cumberland River. We will be spending the next 2 weeks traveling down the Cumberland then up the Tennessee to Knoxville. If you are along the way and have suggestions on anchorage, marina, restaurants, sights, beer times, etc I would love to hear them.

I think this is the first picture I have posted here of the boat after its 2019 makeover. I need to get a better one from the front and side.

Jerry Hay has a very informative website of a lot of the inland river system. Our trip will be similar to his only I have air conditioning.

Paper charts were a joke last time I used them. Way outdated. Keep it between the navigational buoys like the song says and you will do great. Garmin lake topo worked great for me. Make sure to check out active captain too and of course, local info is the best. Watch out for logs and trees. Should not be as much of an issue right now, but after some of the heavy showers you never know what might get flushed in the river. Keep a good eye out. Hit one log with minimal damage you will notice more floatsum where the flow changes below dams.

I know it might be outdated but the Fred Myers guides are a great source of info too. Some other great guide books are available too.

Yeah the Fred Myers are out of date and out of print. Jerry Hay that I linked to in the original post has great guides for a lot of inland rivers. Aquamaps rocks though. A lot of these lakes are unforgiving if you leave the channel. And yes floating debris is a constant threat.

The inflatable canoe is a test run as a dinghy. So far works well but a bit cumbersome and makes the boat ugly. Nice anchorage last night on the Harpeth River.
