48 DA Owners Club

We began our next boat search about three years ago with Nordhavn and now looking at Vicem. The Vicem are very impressive in their overall build quality; built in Turkey. We spent quite a lot of time on a pre-owned 97' and visited her a couple of times with intent to move on it but insurance stood in the way.
Take a look at these Vicem Cruiser 67's, I think you will be impressed http://vicemyachts.com/cruiser/vicem-cruiser-67/. They are not a "production" boat so pre-owned will will have features the original owners had done during the build. Are there any pre-owned on the market at any price reasonability? I would doubt it right now.

That baby is nice!!! Wifey and I could comfortably live and travel on that.

The boat name is Tan Lines. We are working with Bobby Giancola from Denison Yacht Sales. Survey is being done by Leiloni from Coast to Coast Marine Surveyors & diesel mechanical inspection & oil samples by a guy named Mike (can’t find his last name). We are going in eyes wide open for sure. I will inquire about charter use - that is a good call.
I don't see the boat on their website so not sure if I have seen it or not. I looked at so many of them it is hard to remember them all before I bought mine. Not sure your hours but make sure you have proof of engine maintenance.

Congrats! Who is going to perform maintenance and repairs once the boat is back in Michigan? Maybe find a Cummins mechanic local to you, explain the situation, and they might have some questions to ask, and test results they want to look at, the repairs they would want to have seen completed, etc. The boat appears to have 1600 hours, so that’s roughly 100 hours per year, which is better than sitting around, engines typically need to be run to stay in good condition. Definitely look closely at the gel coat, the painted hulls tend to fade without constant maintenance. Of course, once in MI, maybe the sun is not as damaging as it is in FL! Good luck…

Has anyone replaced their master bedroom mattress recently? I have Handcraft Mattress (OEM supplier) providing their quote for an upgraded mattress and they’re going to be north of $3k. I know the shape is somewhat ‘custom’ but has anyone tried an off the shelf gel-foam replacement from one of these home mattress companies? Casper, Nectar or whatever the brands I see advertised like crazy? Do they fit? I’d rather spend $1k and pocket the difference, lol.

The MSR in the 52 is odd shaped also but basically a Queen size. The OEM mattress is crippling to me and I've tried several of the foams and toppers recommended on this site yet still not finding a good night's sleep. I just bought a My Pillow 3-inch mattress topper and so far one night on it. I'd give it a 7 out of 10 for my comfort. So before I have it tailored to fit I'll try a couple of more nights; jury is still out however. If this doesn't do the job and I still have the boat then it's off to a new mattress...

Wow , the Vicem is a proper yachts and beautiful. I'll put that on my search list. I need something that can make the trip from Cabo San Lucas to theSF Bay area and back a few times a year. This certainly fits the bill.

I am looking to have my bottom completely re-done. Bead blasted, new barrier coat and bottom painted. There is no barrier coat currently only bottom painted. What should I expect to pay to have this service completed? I was thinking in the area of $10K.

Thanks Todd! Great advice. Pier 1000 Marine has done all the service for our last 2 boats and treated us well! I will confirm if certified Cummins mechanic.
I did get the engine numbers today & sent to Cummins to get any history prior to making the trip later this week. I also confirmed only personal / pleasure use. She’s never been used as a charter boat. We’ll keep you posted!!

On the boat this weekend and noticed some water stains on the speaker cover on the ceiling over the galley stove. I checked and tightened the wiper mount nuts which were loose by half a turn. Hoping this was the cause and have corrected it but was wondering how to get that cover off to have a better inspection. I didn't want to get too aggressive trying to pry it out in fear that I'd damage the vinyl around it. Any suggestions?

Paint scraper / little paint can thingy….works like a charm. Some say a butter knife, but the little one inch paint scraper works well.

Salon Table: I have a Garelick 2 Pedestal table. I'm tring to figure out how to get it to "go up and down". There are what appear to be manual locks on each leg. Additionally, there is a release mechanism of sorts on the underside. I've pushed, pulled, released and can't get it to move. Perhaps it needs some sort of adjustment, lubrication or plain ole persuasion. Any tips and tricks?

Hey Jay, the table mechanism has never worked on mine either. Tried a few times to buy new cables from the manufacturer but they would not sell them to me directly and pushed me to Marine Max. Called three different locations and all three were useless.

anyway, I just loosen the handles and the table rises on it’s own. Have someone help push is down to where you would like it and tighten up the handles. We keep ours at the same height, no need to adjust it once set.

So the Admiral has been giving me some ‘noise’ (was going to use another choice word) that our 48 doesn’t have the Washer / Dryer aka WrinkleMaster 2000 and others have it. I personally like the extra cabinet space. I have noticed from the manifold that it appears it’s plumbed for it (the cabinet is finished so can’t tell there). Does anyone know of you can add it if it didn’t come from the factory and it is in fact factory plumbed for it? Is this going to be a mission in futility? Primary mission would be drying towels which I know the Splendide units aren’t particularly good at to begin with. Thoughts?

I don't know that I would waste my time. The thing sucks pretty much. I would be curious if it is plumbed and wired as I am not sure about that. The waste water has it's own through hull on the starboard side also. The power outlet is mounted right next to the center bilge access panel. If it is not plumbed would be easy as the manifold is in the coffin and simple run.

A washer dryer for Zach’s Bay??

Haha…..wise guy….she could do a load on the way home! It’s actually for the FI longer trips and other trips. Her single biggest complaint is the loads of laundry when we get home. I need to hear a different complaint.

PS - we’ll be at Watch Hill 8/18-22.
May hit Block or head up to CT the week before.

PPS - I definitely do not have an extra starboard through-hull for waste water.

we have dock neighbors that are live aboard in the summer and have done the loop twice. They just put in a new Spendide and love the thing

Someone on another thread posted that a suggested replacement was Splendide 710. He was pretty pleased with it...
