Windless light stays on

I just purchased a 2008 340 Sundancer. When I turn the power on the windlass light goes on. The light does not go off after I hit the pad. Has anyone dealt with this problem? Will the power to the windlass draw down the batteries?
 
That button engages the windlass solenoid, so if it does not release, it could run the batteries down.
When you turn the batteries off does it release?
 
My first impression would be the dreaded pad/EIM problem. Does a 2001 have those? I assume all other functions on that pad work?

Jim,

OP noted 2008 which would have the quarter circle keypads and an EIM. I don't think a 2001 does.

While everything has it's first signs, I would be inclined to look at the latching solenoid and connections first. It could just be holding the circuit closed and not releasing.

Solenoid or the fuses that are in it.... Fuses solved my problem after spending $200.
