I have a 2012 205 Sport. When purchased, had the dealer install a second battery with battery switch. Have run ever since, but boat only gets sporadic usage (20-30 hours a year) and never left the winter storage last year as we typically boat in Canada and border was closed. Dropped in this year, and on third day both batteries are dead. Switch was left on. However, nothing was on. Wondering what battery life people typically get. I am assuming the sporadic use is very hard on the batteries as well - might be time to replace?

My first set lasted 11 years. Definitely not the norm. Granted the only thing batteries were used for was starting engine, playing the stereo, electronics, and air pump to inflate tubes. They were removed every winter and charged in the spring prior to being reinstalled. Also had them checked every spring by a local supplier of batteries to confirm they still had life.

Define “when purchased”

Are we talking about 9 year old batteries here?

Yep - we are the only owners of this boat. Batteries are supposed to be charged at dealer/marina every spring when it comes out of winter storage. Given the sporadic usage I think they may be due for replacement. Also, with a dual setup isn't it advisable to replace both at once/

At 9 years old, replace them both. You definitely got your money’s worth out of them.

I have heard every 3 years for battery replacement. I hope that I can get 9 years!

It is all based on battery treatment. Charge regularly, never deep discharge, 10 years is possible. Deep discharge, kill them once, no regular charging or use, 3 years more typical.
