Which Mackinaw Marina?

Either are fine, just beware of ferry traffic, and if you want to be on the Island or not. M

Floating docks in Straits and fixed docks at City, as I remember. Both are protected.

It may come down to what is available if you haven't already reserved. In Mac City Straits is what we prefer as the fuel is convenient and floating docks are really nice. If it were me I would skip Mac City and go over to St Ignace as I'm not into the tourist vibe that Mackinaw has. St Ignace has a really nice harbor thats more protected for running to the Island and you can find nice places to anchor in pure sand near the state park for swimming. Just my opinion obviously.

All are good places and have their advantages. The biggest downside to the city marina is how dirty your boat gets with diesel soot from the ferries. We spent hours cleaning after staying there for 3 days. It is particularly hard on vinyl seats and canvas.

That does it. I think I'll go around to Bay Harbor.

I was seasonal at the municipal marina for a few years and never experienced the issue with diesel soot...and I was on the pier nearest Shepler's for two of those years. Just spent a week there with the same results, midge flies here and there but no soot. Personally, I prefer the municipal. Good Wifi, clean facilities, everything you might want is a walk across the street, next to Shepler's ship store, and goose crap isn't an issue. The fixed vs. floating dock is true although the municipal has a dozen or so floating docks for up to about a 40' boat.

I'll be in Bay Harbor on the 9th and 10th and I'll see many of the boats there. I go into Charlevoix on the 11th.
