40 sedan bridge forum

I doubt that will work because of the angle and so forth.

Best thing to do is remove everything from the locker, make sure the floor is solid and make sure all of the corners are caulked and sealed. Also make sure the drain openings are not clogged.

He had the inside of the locker replaced this winter in storage because it was rotted from years of getting wet, so for now it's good. I was hoping to do something that would prevent having to do that in the future.

Thank you for the reply.

Thank you all.
What I was mostly interested on was the difference in performance of 340 Cat vs 430 Cummins. We think we will often cruise along at hull speed but that could change. I assume maintanence would be very similar.

That "dirty water" is more likely water that has soaked in wood giving it that color. You have a leak somewhere, and it's coming into contact with some bare wood, or wood core.
I hope not a sea water leak interacting with the core. It just seems like a leak below the water line would be consistent and steady while the water appears randomly. But i dont know what the wood exposure is below that sub floor. So it could be a freshwater or drain system leak with your theory...

You have wood throughout that boat. If you have a small water leak in one of the pex lines, and it's dripping over exposed core, you will see this. Rain water leaking in and running over any exposed core wood or interior support wood will also create this "dirty water".

I was told by Sea Ray the capacities for the fixed platform is 500# and the hydraulic platform is 800#.

Has anyone replaced one of the windshields?

My port WS is showing signs of crazing in a couple of spots.

Plus, does anyone know what these are made of? Are they a glass laminate, or a plexiglass laminate?

If you mean the clear plastic/acrylic wind deflectors on the bridge, mine are crystal clear except for the starboard side panel. It was so cloudy I couldn’t see through it. I put it through a regiment of 600 grit sandpaper then Presta Supercut, the ultra cutting Creme light, then polish. It’s at about 90 percent visibility. Good enough not to need to replace. But I’ve googled and found similar stuff online if I need to replace it.

Ok, guys with the Cat 3116's and Walker AirSep filters... How in the heck do you service the starboard filter? It's sandwiched between the motor and starboard hull... Any tips would be appreciated.

It seems like glass to me. But not sure. It responds to a razor blade like it’s glass.

Haven’t had to replace them. Heard they are special order (Taylor Made?) with a seriously long lead time. No idea what they cost. But if you might want to do it in the off season, you should probably order one now.

Update. Called Ocean Dynamics (305-770-1800) and they make these, either using plexi or glass.

Mine is plexi. It was replaced by a previous owner (Ocean Dynamics is not a OEM supplier to Sea Ray).

My windshield (port) has crazing. Nothing threatening, but sooner or later will need replaced.

From what I can tell, the center and starboard are glass (Original)

Good job with the research. That’s interesting and good to know. All three of mine are still original and solid glass.

The zippers on my side panels are shot. I managed to get the u-zip closed but no way I can open it again and be able to zip it closed. So I went poor man approach again. I simply rolled up the whole panel. I’ll probably keep this up until I finally get around to replacing the bridge canvas. The more bandaids I create the longer it will be before I do that. Ha!

That's an easy fix, a couple of hours and a sewing machine. Order new zippers from Sailrite, take a seam ripper and carefully remove the old zipper, mark it for alignment, use basting tape and attach new zipper then sew into place.

Thanks. Yup, I actually bought a Juki about 5 years ago and have watched all the videos. One day I’ll get off my lazy butt and actually do it.

  • Has anyone put a ladder in their engine room. My 400DB doesnt have any steps down. Any suggestions?

I've been thinking the same thing. I want something that could be removed easily for access if needed. I figured I would just have to fabricate something.

I cant remember any exact tricks except for laying on the engine and contorting by arms, neck, and wrists trying to get sight and access to the filters. It helps to detach the gas struts so the hatch pivots all the way up. I was able to get it out and service it and back in, so there is a way.
