I opened my fridge last night when I got to the boat and smelled a chemical smell. Not burned wire but could not place it. I reached back into the back and grabbed a package of grated cheese and it was warm. It was right under the light. Upon closer inspection I found the plastic cover had a burned and melted spot and molten plastic had welded the bulb into the socket. I closed the door to figure out if the light goes out or not and found that if the door closed gently the seal keeps the switch from closing. If I push to compress the seal light goes out. power bill seemed to double from when my 44 was plugged in!

The only way to tell if the light goes out is get inside the fridge and have your wife close the door.
nope put her in fridge and u close the door.

This happened in my home fridge just after the extended warranty expired. The double bulb fixture melted like ice cream.

And an LED light bulb would prevent the heat-up issue if the switch fails again.

It's a feature. keeps your night-crawlers from getting scared.
