What is the beam (width) right at the platform lift? From the dimensions diagram, looks like approx 12' or so? Maybe OK for 340 (11' 2") tenders, taking outboard tilt into account?

Chris - I'm not on the boat right now, but my AB12 w/40HP Evinrude fits fine.

@ranger58sb I have a 340 Zodiac YL with 40hp on my lift. It fits basically the entire width perfectly. While the lift can accommodate larger tenders, I wouldn’t recommend you go bigger than a 340. It can get a little tight when backing into slips, and also, the outboard skeg catches the water occasionally depending on sea conditions.

Thanks, guys, I appreciate the dinghy info. At least that'll give me something else to ponder while we're boatless.

We have a Nautica (11’LOA) with a 40HP Yamaha. I have to watch the OB lower unit in tight or windy situations but no big deal.

My Transmissions are ZF325-1A but have the MAN2848LE403's (800 HP) /2005 550DB

So finally after a bit of back and forth we have accepted a 2008 58DB. She is currently located in TX, and will be getting a few items fixed along with a bottom job before she heads to MA and we get to enjoy her.

I love shopping for boats but this year has really been a nightmare. First, we are absolutely kicking ourselves for not acting late last year but we were holding out hope that another brand/model that we really wanted would pop up in our price range. When that hadn't happened by mid January we decided that of all our other choices we would focus on the 58 DB's. I saw a really nice one in NY, only to have the owner pull it off the market two days later when they realized they had nothing on the market they could move up to. After offers on 3 other boats that owners were looking for crazy high amounts we were under contract on another one, where two weeks later they decided they couldn't find a boat to buy for their summer and would keep it one more season! In the meantime I had been talking with the broker on the one we are closing on next week, which on paper was our first choice of what was on the market but the delivery trip was daunting (still is) so we held out as long as we thought we could. Three weeks ago we finally made an offer, got surveys scheduled ten days later, hopped on a plane for the first time in 15 months and had a mostly successful trip. There are a few small issues, nothing major, and only one surprise in that it is in desperate need of a bottom job.

There is not a table on the bridge on this one, and we know we want one. Can someone tell me the size of the stock table? I have been on a couple with the stock table and it seems like it was a reasonable size for that space. I would like to get a teak table ordered so we can possibly have it for our summer trips.

Second, I forgot to measure the size of the hatch in the transom where the current owner has their name graphic applied. We are changing the name and need to know how tall the letters should be. The new name is not 100% set, but the leader is only 5 letters so width wont be an issue. I also need to know how high the space is where the hailing port is.

Obligatory picture!

Congrats, She's beautiful.

Congratulations, looks very, very nice. Your voyage to bring her home will be great!

Ref shopping: Yep, all that. I feel your pain. :(

-Chris

Congrats!! This is a great all-around boat that checks all the boxes! There’s a few of us here that know these inside out so shoot your questions at us! Unfortunately, mine’s still in the shed, or I’d go measure that transom door for you!

Congrats Scott, that boat's in the marina next door to us. There should be several options to get it in for a bottom paint in the area.

Looks exactly like our fly! I wont be on the boat until Thursday and I'll send you the dimensions then.

Thanks, yes its moving to the shipyard for Ben Robles to do bottom and get a bunch of little things addressed before the delivery.

Was a pretty cool area, wish I could have stayed longer and or get a chance to go back before it leaves.

The boat came out of Naples two years ago, not sure if that's the area you got yours in but I always admired your shade and was pretty happy to see something extremely similar on this one. If your boat did come out of SWFL, I suspect it was from the same shop.

Would I be right to suspect Sea Ray used the same hull for at least one other boat model? Sundancer maybe?

Looking at Documented HINs, I see the earliest with the same model number SERY1 is 002J03.. and 003-007 are also J203. (There's also a 000I204, but I could guess that might have been an error during documentation... so maybe could have been 001I203, 001J203 instead? The actual first one?)

The SERY1 series goes at least as high as 815C313; nothing newer than that found.

But the Documentation measurements (gross ton, net ton, length, breadth, depth) are sort of all over the map. Several group around 55' length (54.6, 54.8, etc.) and several group around 50' length (49.9).

So... how did Sea Ray routinely produce boats with maybe similar hulls? Hulls numbered one-up, and then the model (DB, DA, etc.) is whatever it turns out to be?

Or... are all SERY1-series boats 550/58 DBs... and folks who've Documented maybe didn't do that so perfectly?

Or... ??

The last 4 digits of the hull id number are the date assigned and model year. The first two are the month (by letter) and the last digit of the year the number is assigned (technically when the keel is laid). The next two numbers are the model year. Like cars the model years generally start in summer, so its common to see like H213 for August 2012, 2013 model year. Hull Ids are not necessarily assigned by model especially if there are many models being built in the same factory simultaneously like Sea Ray does. Unlike cars there is no way to decode a model from a HIN.

As far as the documentation categories, there were some changes in 2006ish on how boats were measured, now are supposed to be based on the molded length.

I suspect they did use the same hull for Sundancer's as well but I am not positive.

We bought ours out of Naples as well...she was in Sarasota some as well...Mine is made out of aluminum and it does have some salt corrosion marks. Wish it had been SS. We replaced the white stamoid with Captain Navy Sunbrella.

Congrats Scott, your going to need a bigger dinghy just saying. Also I’d do the cutlass bearings while she’s out that’s a long trip.keep posting pics.

what is an indicator that the cutlass bearings are getting worn or need to be replaced?
