Capt kirk,
Awesome job. Can see ya love it. Just a fyi i had the exact same radio and cd player. I replaced with Fusion MS-RA70I bluetooth radio, installed a USB adapter for thumbdrive music and a i pod wire. added 5 bluetooth remotes all over the boat ( admiral request) boxed out the old cd changer hole for a storage spot. Can even download fusion to phone for a extra remote or music great update for a couple boat bucks

Hey that system looks great, thx for posting it. Could I plug in an external hard drive via USB, with my entire music collection on it?

Yes. I don't see why not. I downloaded like 2,000 songs on to a thumdrive. The amount of songs goes by the thumbdrive you get. I also just use a ipod wire to connect to a ipod i got that uses my gym music. The radio has all ports in the rear for this

This is my system. Like i said, just box the old CD player out and ya got a nice extra spot for stuff. Ya can see my thumdrive and ipod wire.

OH, I get it! Looks very nice!

I like the shelf where the CD changer used to be. I could easily set the hard drive there or plug in a device that doesn't have bluetooth. Yea, this upgrade is on the list!

I hired a mechanic to give me a hand with all of this maintenance. Namely, to deal with the impellors, the ignition and tune up the generator. Also, one of the hoses feeding oil to the remote oil filter mount on the port engine was oozing oil through the surface of the hose so I paid them to replace it. $100/hr. on site.

I drained/replaced all of the oil from the engines and generator. I also replaced the transmission fluid.

I'm so lucky that the previous owner provided me with the accessories needed to do some basic maintenance. When I opened up the boat boxes at the slip, I was pleased to find a plethora of odds and ends including this Jabsco pump!

I also understand that the best way to drain fluids is from the bottom of the engine, but I just can't fit in there to do it. However, I learned a trick with the generator! There is a hose that gives you a direct access to the bottom of the oil pan. Undo a brass cap, pull the hose to the side of the generator and slip the skinny tube from the oil pump into it.

After a bunch of searching on this forum on how to do it, I replaced the transmission fluids. There is a cone shaped screen in the filler hole that you can slip the skinny tube through. It's not as thorough as removing the drain plug underneath, but like I said, that's really a pain in the @ss!

You need to reposition the skinny pump hose a few times to try and get out as much as possible. Measure the amount of fluid removed to replace the exact amount and avoid overfilling. I removed around 2.5 qts. Still not sure if there is some sort of filter to be cleaned on this particular model transmission....?

So, to sum up maintenance completed during this session:
Changed impellors- engines/generator
Changed oil/filters- engines/generator
New wires/plugs/rotors/caps- engines/generator
Changed transmission fluid

OH, and completed battery replacements....next post. -kirk out

This battery is no longer available at Sam's Club in the Utah and Colorado area. There's been a lot of recommendations to get it at $179. Out of stock and no update on restocking. Can't find it at a Sam's Club within a 7 hour driving distance from my home.

I've been searching at local resources like Napa, Auto Zone, Walmart, Sam's Club and not so local, Amazon. Napa, Auto Zone and Walmart are near my boat and make returning the core easy.

Napa has a group 27 AGM rated at 92 amp hours in stock. $259
Sam's Club has the group 27 version of the above pictured battery. 92 amp hours. $158
Auto zone has the Optima Bluetop D34M group 34(currently own and replacing), 55 amp hours. $289
Walmart has the VMAX MR-137 group 31 AGM, pick up not available shipped only. 120 amp hours. $280
Amazon has the same battery as Walmart. $289

I need my house bank to last as long as possible. I spend multiple days at a time out at various beaches and would like to run the genny as little as possible. In the future I'll be looking at solar charging systems to help with that goal.

The Optima's were installed in 2014 and are ready to be replaced. After running the genny for an hour during dinner, if I run nothing other than the fridge and some cabin lights and charge some phones overnight, the house bank dips below 11v when we wake up in the morning. I'm really over having power issues. I need to check how many amps that ancient fridge is drawing. Seems like the compressor is turning on and off all the time...

I've replaced the Starboard House Bank and the Port Bank. I went with 120ah group 31 AGM for the house bank. The group 31 size just fits the battery trays and the space. The previous group 24 Optima Blue Tops that were in there only have 55ah. Other members have said it true, get the biggest batteries you can fit! I hope they last. The Optimas lasted for 6 years. Delivered to my marina by Amazon Prime $289...https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0042L7DZ8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

A couple weeks later I was ready to head back down to the boat for more work and LO AND BEHOLD! The Duracell 105ah Group31 AGM was back in stock at my local Sam's Club! $180. https://www.samsclub.com/p/duracell...membership_purchase-history_order-details_pdp

Other members have recommended this battery and I really wish it was in stock a few weeks ago when I purchased the Amazon batteries. I would have saved a bunch of money! I installed it for the Port Bank. It appears the power feed for the Helm electronics comes from this bank too. I switched the generator starter to this bank as well. Just checked Sam's Club and that battery is out of stock again!

The group 31 battery just BARELY fits under the exhaust...

Next up: More 12v charging options for the Helm and polishing ------>Kirk Out

I tracked down a Bluesea charging station. It was tough to find the model I was interested in. I wanted 2, 12v charging ports, a switch and a voltage gauge. Bluesea offers a really cool OLED voltage gauge I liked and the weatherproof, solid construction of their components sold me on their product. I found it at Allied Electronics in Texas
$112 (spendy)

What I didn't realize is how thick the instrument panel on the helm is. Very difficult to cut through the panel with the tools I had, which was an oscillating saw and a drill. Would have been better to have a jig saw. There are 4 layers of material to get through. A solid 1 inch! Be ready to breath in, and clean up, a lot of fiberglass dust!

I decided to feed this charging panel from the switched "Electronics" circuit that you can access from the 12v circuit breaker panel right underneath the wheel at the helm. Sea Ray conveniently provides a fuse bus that you can add onto. Super easy to run the wires up to the area where the panel is mounted. The only drawback is that it's not constant power like the 12v socket underneath and to the right of the wheel. I thought of tapping into that circuit, but this option is just too clean and safe. Ground bar, fuse, it's all right there.

I now have a weather resistant USB charging panel for tablets and phones and a volt gauge for the port battery bank! Very important for my future purchase of a water resistant tablet to run Navionics.....Kirk Out

WOW! I haven't updated this thread since April '21! I must have been boating! :p

Indeed we have been! Not a single maintenance problem all summer once I finished up things back in April. I've made some improvements I'll detail, but first, here's some highlights from the season...Kirk Out
