Seymour at $7.00 a can vs cat @16.99 ?
I like how the Seymour covers.
I don’t see the zip tie your talking about?
Oh now I see what your looking at. Yes drain hose for floor hatch which you can access the ER without lifting the entire deck. Used for quick inspections when running or finished a run. My Actuator to lift the floor requires 1500lb lift Torque
And it failed once. Trying to buy one was a nightmare. So I rebuilt it Fortunately

We really need the mid cabin for our use so the DA was the only option but the access you get in the EC engine room is really awesome

Having the mid engines and straight drives is what I wanted. We have the side bedroom with bunk beds for when we had the kids on board. Now it luggage and other stuff.

School me on how you paint your engines. I'm assuming clean with a good degreaser and remove any visible rust? Use a piece of card board as a edge so you don't over spray?

Well I’m very Anal and have a lot of time
Dremel with little wire brush
Small wire brushes
Toothbrushes
Long Q-tips
Air compressor to blow out dust/rust
Masking tape
Acetone
Brake cleaner
Aluminum foil to wrap hoses so no overspray
I have never used a degreaser.

I now see what you guys mean about the intake heater. I tested both mine today and they definitely pull the voltage down and it’s very clear when they click off.

Years ago it freaked me out and I had to have Frank talk me off the ledge... lol !!!

lol! thinking back on itI have noticed the voltage gauge drop then it pops back up when we're idling out of the channel. My plan was to take the alternators off for testing but I'm thinking this might be the cause since I'm at idle when it happens and I read a post by Frank saying CAT alts don't put out full current below 1000 RPM or so. I may still have them tested but that's lower on the priority list now

I am looking for a way to remotely (from the engine bay) start/stop 3126's. I have been advised that I will need to change my winterizing procedure, so being able to start/stop the 3126's from the engine bay would be beneficial, (I can monitor the anti-freeze I use to winterize, and then shut down at the right moment).

Any help would be appreciated.

tks

Dave

Love the sound of kitty Cat's purring!

oh yeah, me too. Amazing after 5 months of sitting - fire up in one rotation, only a single puff of smoke, and the idle smoothed right out back to ~700 almost instantly.

Anyone replace the drain plug on the racors with a valve? Any idea what the thread size is?

I believe we have RA500’s

they make 2 different styles of drain plug. One is brass on/off valve, the other is a hand operable version. If you keep your metal fire protector, you will need the brass on off. You can get SeaChoice for about $20 ea. You will need to install a drain plug in the bottom as there is enough suction to pull air through the valve without the plug.

One of the things that you learn by experience is when to use aftermarket or
"el-cheapo" parts on your boat. The Racor drain valve is one of those things.

The glass bowl isn't glass but is plastic. If you assemble and disassemble the bow enough, the threads in the plastic bowl wear or crumble. Therefore, try to do this one time.

The metal "fire protector" isn't a fire protector but is a heat shield to protect the plastic bowl from the heat generated in your engine room.

Racor makes a ball valve for this exact purpose. They are a bit pricey but are far superior to aftermarket or home brew short cuts:

I'm not advocating that you buy from Amazon; this was just a convenient photo and description.

Also, one thing you should consider doing is upgrading your Racors from single 500MA's to a pair of 900MA's on each side. The 500 MA filter flows only 60 GPH while a single 900MA flows 90 GPH and dual 900MA's flow 180 GPH almost 4X your present capacity. This could easily save you a tow home if you happen to get a bad load of fuel.

Thanks Frank. While $50 is certainly an expensive valve it's not too bad in boat dollars :) I'll keep the 900MA upgrade in mind as well

You guys try CAT parts SIS 2.0 yet? It's SO much faster than the old system, much less frustrating to use
