Recommissioning to do list

Nice list. If I read correctly, you went almost 5 years between raw water cooling train "cleaning". April 2016--January 2021. How did they look? I'm at PWM and play in the Bay a few weeks a year.

Jaybeaux
I bought my boat from Carlton (PWM) and also kept the in the Potomac for 10+ years. The first time I pulled the coolers was after almost 10 years! (Ignorance is bliss). They looked really good and no leaks. Followed Tony from Seaboard on the process. Keep the boat at HHN now. I pulled the coolers 2 weeks ago, but have not looked at them yet, so can't answer your last question.

I'd be curious to see when everyone launched their boat. Here in the Upper Chesapeake the weather is pretty unpredictable in the spring but I generally shoot for early April. Often the weather still is miserable till May.

I guess older boats have longer lists
1) pull and rebuild one of the transmissions
2) build my wife the L bench seat she wants in our boat
3) finish the cockpit improvements
4) purchase the one case of bourbon needed for the upcoming season

My list...
  1. Replace Exhaust tubes x2
  2. Send elbows to DeAngelo to reseal
  3. Pull windlass, fish chain counter wire and seat in place
  4. replace autopilot w/new Garmin unit
  5. pull boat
  1. power wash bottom
  2. check zincs
  3. replace boot stripe
  4. Replace worn swim platform bolts
  5. Install trim tab indicators
  1. Splash and go boating

Even baby Sea Rays need recommissioning work.

2021
1. Flounder Pounder EIM Upgrade
2. Manifolds and Risers replacement
3. Harden Marine Gen 7 Waterpump Impeller/Plate kit
4. Spark Plugs and Cables (seeing as the manifolds are pulled)
5. Starter (seeing as the manifolds are pulled)
6. Cap and Rotor
7. Transom seal kit, trim senders, bellows, U-Joint replacement, gimbal bearing, engine alignment (done)

2021 Wish List
1. Octopus Mechanical autopilot drive
2. Garmin Reactor 40 Corepack

We'll go in the water in early may and hang out at the boatyard marina until around the end of the month when our summer marina opens. It is on a river that drains from the White Mountains, so tree trunks are pretty common until the end of May.

Here it is, the boat is new to me 09/2020
Replace all raw water hoses
Replace fuel transmission coolers
Replace aftercoolers
Service heat exchangers
Replace impellers
Remove turbos clean and inspect
Change all fluids and filters
Change antifreeze
Replace belts
Good thing I did the work, only cost about 12k
Only thing left is install new generator

Remove shrink wrap
Install battery
Replace fuel filter
Replace spark plugs
Replace anode
Clean/wax hull
Install bimini top
Install porta potti
Apply name/hailing port to transom
Start engine on muffs
Launch!

I always did all of the systems preventive maintenance at our dock in October and drove the boat to the Travelhoist at an appointed time. It was freshly washed so it went into storage very clean. The marina polished and waxed it in the winter so it was ready to go in the spring. I would have it launched on a nice day in April and drive it to our lake house a few miles away. There, I would sanitize the water system and ice maker and we were ready to boat. I would rinse the pollen off of it every few days and it stayed clean for quite a while with just regular rinses.

Attached is my Commissioning and Maintenance log. I had to covert it to .pdf for this forum, but send me a private note if you want it in .doc format.
Very detailed and valuable. Would you mind sending it to me in word format please and thankyou.

Most maintenance items were completed in the Fall with winterization. Flush the fresh water system, wax and buff the hull, refinish the teak swim platform and go!

Onboard AC is somewhat new to me. Can anyone talk me through the basic pre-start and operation. I know there is a suction and ball/gate value to open but not sure what I'm looking/ listening for after that. I do know where the OBD is and need steady water squirting once the system is running.
I know AC is a luxury but if have it you might as well use it. also wondering if this system will also push heat? Sorry I don't have spec sheet at this time.

Open the sea cock in the bilge (facing the engine room bulkhead its just forward of the port side transmission and hard to get at). Then turn it on. That's about it. My pump sometimes doesn't self prime the first time in the spring but a run at speed forces water in and it will work after that. You can also prime it by pumping water back through the unit from the outlet at the bow.

Yours is probably a CruisAir 12K unit likely, with an SMX controller. It is a reverse cycle AC/heat unit. See attached for operation of the controller

Also there may be a through hull seacock where the cooling water exits the boat. This will be located against the hull close to the AC unit. On our 280 it was located literally beside the AC unit the galley bench seat.

Also don’t freak out the first time you turn the AC on if it does not work. The cooling line may need to be primed. This can be accomplished several ways; driving the boat with both seacocks open, inserting a water hose in the exit through hull and running water through it, and, pulling off one of the cooling lines and let water flow into the bilge. I prefer the second choice whenever possible.

Back in Feb, put down first week of May, since they asked. Plus that's when the slip rental starts (May 1). Now of course they are delayed, we have to do it in order of paperwork received, yada yada yada.

Of course, once I get in the water I'm not going anywhere because Moronmax still hasn't resolved my USCG app, and I can do the state reg until that's done, and I can't get my city sticker until the stage reg is done.

Hey Phil, yesterday, first day at tiki bar, stayed way ast intended but seen old friends ain’t see in 7 years, Great times. Catch up.
