2006 380 sundancer

Welcome to the site and good luck with the purchase. We bought our 360DA a little more than a year ago upgrading from a 27' Grady White and one of the biggest reasons was a more stable ride for my wife. I think your wife will be much happier with the ride on the 380DA but you will also trade some speed compared to your Four Winns. I had a mechanic do an engine survey in addition to my survey which was very informative. Keep in mind that risers and manifolds need to be replaced every 5 to 7 years (depending on who you speak to) and this is an expensive maintenance issue. Just something to keep in mind when considering costs.

thank you, and when she stepped onto the boat she felt as if she would be quite comfortable on it.
As far as risers and manifolds it seems
As you are right on who you talk to as some say if vessel was in salt water the need to be replaced, if freshwater it is not necessary as they won’t go bad. Guess time will tell, and we do appreciate the heads up.

Great looking boat, I’m sure we will burn through fuel this summer, but then again that’s what it’s all about, enjoying it right!!!
Can’t wait to see how much will be burned going to Put In Bay and back!!
That’s definitely what it’s all about! If your not burning fuel, your not using it enough! The more you are able to enjoy it the better. Hopefully some of these restrictions get lifted this summer and we are able to get more use this year. Put in bay and Lexington are both great trips. Enjoy the new boat!

Sold my 2007 38 sundancer this past fall. Was a great boat and treated us well. Had same motors and not much to complain about with the exception of fuel burn. Plenty of room for guests and entertaining. I’m close by Mac rays and boat in anchor bay also. You’ll love the boat, congratulations!View attachment 97840

enlarged the pic of your boat you sold and just wondering where you got the “extra” backrest pads that fill In the spot for entering the boat from the side

I have always wanted one of those cushions to fill the step area (back rest) when using it for seating

Sorry - should have added that my only frame of reference is saltwater.

They were factory pads with sea ray logos embroidered on them. I assumed they came from the factory with them. Now that you mention it I did see some other 38’s and don’t recall any of them having them. Maybe the first owner had them made? If so they were a perfect match and seemed like they came with the boat.

I will say I’ve owned several sea rays, freshwater boats and have never replaced risers or manifolds. I think that is just a salt water thing!

thank you, what do you like not like about it?

Will have own the boat 6 years in April. I have done a few mods over those years to make it nicer to live with and operate. Next thing I may look at is a water maker to make trips more convenient as not everywhere has water.

I'm in salt and have changed the ex manifolds every 5 years (twice now) and also changed the ss risers for good measure the last time the manifolds were changed.

During the mechanical survey, make sure the fuel pumps pressurise and then turn off when the ignition switches are turned on. Common prob is that they run continuously under pressure prior to starting. It can be a fuel pump relay or in my case had to send the ECU to Whipple in the US for the fix.

Don't know where you landed on this as your profile still says boatless, but might be worth a mechanical inspection on the Mercs if in salt. Check those fuel pump/cool fuel modules for salt build up and junk. Mechanics will tell you they are prone to fast failure resulting in overheat/vapor lock. Bad design.

Also, if you've got a Kohler genset, get somebody to look at that puppy and make sure it is well maintained. If any '06 still has all the original white paint with no cracks around the bolts, you're in for some work I'd expect...particularly if it hasn't been run much. I didn't have to spend much money to get mine up and running, but I certainly spent more than a few days replacing parts to get it running smoothly. Mine was barely used but that also meant barely maintained by the previous owner, unfortunately.

The boat is a pretty nice size. Nimble enough to pull a skier or kids on a float, but enough space to sleep. My wife and two younger kids do pretty well on it marina hopping in the Puget Sound.

Can’t imagine what good the seat would be with out a back rest seems like a dumb design if they don’t come with it.
I think a previous owner made these. I've never seen them on boats out my way. Lack of a continuation of the stripe across the cushions. Great add. I wish I had them on my 38DA. I might have to look into get some made.
