Boaters Affected By Rising Fuel Costs

Over here on the south end of Lake Michigan, I have noticed more dinghys in the harbor at Hammond than ever before in the last 12 years. My lilttle 6 hp will go for 3 weekends with 6 gal of gas.
Looking forward to an 18 mile run this weekend to Portage, and back again for a Transient Party the following weekend. The marina is offering $0.15 per gal discount to those that come to the party.

Still the best $550.00 per month (mooring fee for season) waterfront condo though.

I have not noticed a decline in boats on the water on Allatoona. It seems at least the same if not more. I have noticed more pontoon boats on the water than I ever have.

The local Marine Max seems to be selling well.

Things are very slow where I boat, little activity. It feels like I have Lake Superior all to myself. If anyone wants to come up here I guess I would share if I have to.

Over here in the Houston and Clearlake area. The economy and boating is still pretty good. Hopefully i will get approved and be able to join the rest of you, but i am a little skimish about making a big purchase not know what the economy will do

Right now is a great time to buy a boat if you have the cash to make a great deal and not worry about a payment. Lots of folks miss the big picture when buying a boat. Operational costs are a factor way to often over looked in the past. But now that gas has become a eye opener for a lot of people maybe there might be some better buying decision made by folks. :smt024 (yea, right )

Like Turtle and jg300da I boat LI Sound and the NY waters and agree, there are just no boats out there. Memorial Day weekend I went to Pt Jeff and both Sat & Mon I was the only power boat running. Went to Capri (Pt Washington) mid June and again no boats except a few small outboards fishing in their local harbors. But July 4th weekend (not good weather) I was heading back from Huntington and did see a few more boats out there.

I think people are saving the fuel for the 1 or 2 weekend trips they really want to do. I enjoy running the boat and like getting away for the weekend, but what i did stop was the "quick 3 hr runs" for guests to city NYC or Lady Liberty, (Circle line can have that route) thats a $400+ run and just not happening anymore. Guests will now get a guick shot to Croton, for a raft up-swim party, and I'll feed them.

You guys don't know how lucky you are.......you should try filling up in the UK at between $12.50 and $12.80 a gallon.

Not sure what happened in the last week, but last weekend was packed with boats. Maybe everyone just got the memo that boating season started. Anchored in Oyster bay and it was loaded with boats.

iv'e been more affected by 1) weather, 2) tune-up screw-up (now corrected), and 3) mechanical failure (to be corrected this weekend).

Serenity now!

It all comes out in the wash... gas prices are obviously hurting boat sales. We recently bought a 34 ft Sundancer at a bargain price, and even factoring in fuel costs, we can still remodel it for less than possible 3 years ago. Making lemonade out of lemons here in North Florida.... great site for a new member and we appreciate all of the help we have gotten so far.
