Celebrating America? Gag me with a spoon please!

Liberals will call you racist for having common sense
No, decent people will call you racist for being upset with the treatment of comfortable yet "hard-done-by" white people, flying in to a U.S. airport but then creating lots of drama and hysteria over the imagined "threat" of desperate brown people, risking their lives by walking across the border.

So since 9/11 (Saudi terrorists that somehow caused a war with Iraq???) the only terrorist attacks in the U.S. have been domestic not foreign, by American white people, including the very recent attack on the Capital, but you are more worried about Mexicans??? The Mexicans that willingly wash your car, clean your house, cut your lawn, harvest your fruit and vegetables, change your oil, cook your fast food, provide child care for your kids, walk your dog, help build your homes, serve you at WalMart and detail your boat?
Those Mexicans?
You are ridiculous. Go do your research (beyond CNN) before you come here an lecture us on terrorist attacks in the US. Several have been perpetrated by and/or assisted by immigrants -- not all by American white people, not even close.

Canada doesn't have the illegal immigration problem we have in the US so it is highly likely you have no first hand experience, do you? I live in a very diverse area -- kid's high school is half hispanic. So let me run down your list:
1) My car is washed by an automatic machine. Free self serve vacuums. No mexicans there.
2) Don't have outside help to clean the house. But used to have a local woman do it. Not mexican.
3) Cut my own lawn. But there are many Mexican lawn service companies.
4) Unfortunately, last I looked most fruits and vegtables are imported. But I'll give you that they work the fields out west and down south. In my area corn, wheat and soybeans are harvested mechanically.
5) Oil change place is operated by a half dozen young kids -- fresh out of high school types, trying to figure out what they want to do. None are Mexican.
6) Child care for the kid was provided by licensed caregivers, mostly young girls with teaching credentials. No Mexicans there either.
7) Cook my fast food -- nope, unless I go the the McD's in the mexican part of town (which is 2-3 times per week for breakfast). But at lunch it's mainly young kids, including african americans, working the sub shops and such. Really need to go to a real mexican joint to be served by them.
8) Walk my own dog. Doggy daycare is run my a local white lady.
9) Help build homes -- my last several contractors have been polish.
10) Walmart -- not a lot of mexicans working at our walmart. Mostly shopping there.
11) Detail my own boat. The service provider most use employes college students for the summer.

Frankly, I am actually surprised after I did that excersise that there is very little service provided by mexicans considering the area I live in.

But you continue to fail to distinguish between legal and illegal immigrants -- which is an important distinction.

Like I said in the last post, you obviously have no first hand experience. You get your information from CNN and the like and think you "know it." Sorry, but I can tell you for a fact that illegal immigrants cause great stress on the limited resources of our local school system, as well as many other public systems. So there is a problem, regardless of you calling us racists.

I absolutely got the point that the post was trying to make. I think its ridiculous to say its ironic that you have the inconvenience of airport security caused by radical Islamic terrorists, and yet there is a problem with illegal immigration at the Mexican border. Very different issue and very different problem.

You make a strong distinction between Islamic terrorists and what you call "illegal immigration". You don't seem to make any distinction between an illegal and an immigrant. Isn't that like calling a burglar, an "uninvited guest"? It is an oxymoron.

I doubt I'll change your mind but hope you will consider that immigration and border security are also very different issues as well. As long as we continue conflating the two, we will forever be talking at each other rather than to each other.

You've missed the point, your post makes that even more clear.

I think you have some problems you need to work out....there is something clearly bothering you...

Just a bit too much.
It amuses me that some folks still find nominal communism or even socialism to be so threatening. Really? Soviet Communism ended with Gorbachev and the Berlin Wall falling. China is now a huge, industrial powerhouse and essentially a capitalistic dictatorship. More millionaires and billionaires in China than in the U.S.
Vietnam? Making your electronics, Nike and Adidas shoes and Tommy Hillfiger clothes. Certainly much better off than it was 50 years ago.
Cuba? Ever been there? I was, last year: great people - polite, educated, kind and happy, with a thriving tourism industry and perhaps the best healthcare system in the Western world. True, it's not a wealthy nation but very little crime and no homeless, either. Castro overthrew Battista, a nasty, U.S. backed dictator, way back in 1959. 60 years of a U.S. trade embargo and it's still doing fine. Meanwhile, various Democratic Socialist nations in Europe are among the most prosperous in the world.

To my mind, the U.S. has many, more urgent issues to deal with than a "threat" of communism. Maybe start with the subversive, far-right extremists that just invaded the Capital, staged an attempted coup, threatened the V.P. with lynching and were urged on by the President. That is the very real and present threat to American democracy and way of life. And Covid, a very real and present threat to life, itself.

Back to the good ol' Sea Ray stuff.

this is where you fell off the rails... since signing up on this sight you were contributing...this post 3 weeks ago is when you came out of the socialist closet... traumatic event ?

We are in our 70ies. When we had children many years ago we had nannies from England and the Caribbean. We paid them minimum wage, provided them room and board and paid their air fair to Canada. You could not find any Canadians to do what they did. Canada imports Mexicans every year to work on farms because no Canadians will do the work. The only different between Canada legal works and US illegal workers is the Canadian government makes it very easy to import cheap unskilled labour. Most of the nannies we had went back to school when they finish the contract with us and have become lawyers, social worker, resort manager and mangers of child care fasciitis. Hard working illegal immigrant workers in the US have probably done the same.

I would add one qualifier. "no (whatever) will do the work" should be replaced with "no (whatever) will do the work, at the offered wage". Why that is the case is an entirely different conversation, but it is worth calling out, because it goes to the heart of why this is such volatile issue.

I refuse to believe that the entire American system is going to fall apart now that the Democrats are in the presidency and have the majority in congress and the senate. Your systems are not that fragile. If they are, you were doomed regardless of who is in power.

And if you truly believe that the nearly 50% of elected representatives that are Republican in State government won't moderate the democratic agenda, then you are shockingly critical of the very constitutional system you are so proud of.

In 2 years time you will all still be fat (I don't mean that literally - well, my mirror excepted) and happy, driving your boats, having fun with friends and family, making money and it will all be just fine. And the next time the political pendulum swings back right, your next POTUS can unwind what this one is doing and on you shall go.

Woody lies again, posting a picture of Hondurans fleeing violence and looking for asylum in Mexico - not the U.S. as you imply.
Shame, Woody, at least try to be honest in portraying what you are so afraid of.

Asylum from what?

Hey guys, Isn't it remarkable that this thread, as politically charged as it has become (by design:rolleyes:), has been allowed to remain in the Tiki Hut instead of being relegated to the bilge? It's testament to the participants that can stay civil in their discourse and also to the administrators for having the guts to allow some spirited debate in the open. Stark contrast to the big three Social media platforms. Lets make sure we cherish this and support it. Carry on!

Absolutely right, Carpediem! You have identified something that is so vital in a democracy yet it's becoming rare. (Too many PC with easily hurt feelings.) And for us, spirited AND respectful debate is as important and enjoyable as boats and rum! But then I have yet to meet a seasoned boater that I didn't like.

Nothing I said is a lie, what I did do is make a recommendation. It would be a learning experience for you to have a steady flow of illegals pouring into the Vancouver area. It wouldn't take long and you'd be changing your tune.
