Hey Capt Rusty here with not good news.....

I have been traveling the East Coast more times than I can remember, and like a lot of you I make it a point when traversing the East Coast to stop at my most favorite marina ever, Coinjock Marina NC.

I can go on and on about the service and relationship I have with the Coinjock crew and that consist of Louis the owner, JD my main man running the docks, and last but not least my buddy Norman who takes my calls, and always seems to find room for me, even when they are booked up tight.

For years upon years after dealing with rough seas, I have called that place at the last minute and Norm always said, 'keep coming Rusty, we'll find room for you or we'll make room". My friend Norman passed away today, and even though I am in Ft. lauderdale right now awaiting approval to enter Bahamian waters tomorrow, I am hanging my head low at this passing.

I called my friends at Coinjock today to say how bummed I was with this news, and to remind them just how important Norman was to me, and I am sure many others.

I can not tell you how many times I have dealt with conditions that most would have never left the dock on, and it was Norm's voice on the phone that brought calmness to my soul after dealing with rough seas. He was the one who put my mind at ease knowing that friends were waiting on me, and all would be okay.

To you Norm, I salute you and thank you for nearly 20 years of serenity to this sailor. Rest in peace my friend, I WILL truly miss you!!

So, so proud to have known you and to call you my friend.

With total respect and admiration,

Capt. Rusty Higgins

@Capt. Rusty Higgins I'm sorry for your loss. One of the lessons we can all learn in these situations, which you captured beautifully, is that regardless of our role in life we can always live our lives in a way that makes things better for those around us.

Godspeed to your friend, and smooth waters to you.

That was a very moving tribute. Being in NC, we hear a lot about Coinjock Marina and the service there. It was very nice of you to take a moment to remember him.

Very sorry to hear, Rusty. I wish we’d been able to stop through there last month. I’m looking forward to making a run with you.

@Capt. Rusty Higgins,

I don't know that gang anywhere near like you do...But, as the sunlight broke on one of my most harrowing days heading south, I can only tell you how happy I was to see that place and appreciated how friendly they were. I started that day around 3am, if memory serves...And, when the guy grabbed my lines to tie me off (perhaps JD), I had to ask him where I was...

Nice tribute Rusty...You're in my thoughts...Safe journey tomorrow.

God bless, good to hear such a tribute.

Where you heading in the Bahamas? Would love to meet you sometime on your journeys in Ft Lauderdale. I am right off the New River at Davie bridge.

Sorry to hear about the passing of your buddy Capt.
I know how you love a stop in Coinjock. Like many on here, I've never made that stop YET, but I'm looking forward to it one day.

Since I live relatively close by, and have friends that live in Waterlily (at the end of the road the Marina is located on), I've been going to that restaurant and admiring all the boats moored there from many years. It was only a couple of weeks ago that I tied up alongside of the restaurant with my "new to me" 480SB. I had no clue that they had such a good reputation along the East Coast. (Everyone says "get the Prime Rib")

Norm will be missed, this is sad news, to say the least.

Rusty, my thoughts and prayers are with you about your loss and with Scott as he heads into surgery today. May the good Lord place his hand on your shoulders today and always.

Departed Lauderdale yesterday morning and arrived in Nassau that afternoon. Left there this morning and tied up in Georgetown Exumas around 2p. Their pumpout was not working so had to drive out 4 miles at a dept of 4,000 feet, to empty my tank in the big pond.

Stories to tell and wish you guys were with me!

Capt. R

post script...thanks Mike, thinking of you brother!
