So you win the lottery what do you add to your fleet

My problem is the boat I want isn't being made. If I won the lottery I would buy a 260 Sundancer with a 300 hp Mercury outboard (if Sea Ray made one). Thankfully it's not a problem until I win. :)

My wife and I actually talked about this the other day. We don't need some huge yacht to show off, but rather would want a larger boat than what we have now of the highest quality and workmanship, and something truly beautiful that would serve our NW cruising needs and dreams of the inside passage. With that in mind, we decided the perfect boat for us would be a Sabre 48, no matter how much $$ we won in the lottery. :)

OR ..if my wife would get on board (no pun intended) with cruising around the world, a nice Nordhavn would fit the bill for that and everything above.

If one wants a nice boat we met a couple in their late 70ies on our way north 10 years ago. They had a 52 foot Viking. Twin V12 Man I think and 20 KW generator. He showed us around. Only boat I ever saw with spiral stair case inside to upper helm. Ask how he liked it. Just like a car you drive it at 45MPH. He was from Santa Barbara and came north every year. He and his wife handled the boat alone.

Probably keep our boat. If we moved somewhere where we might be in salt water then maybe something a little bigger with inboards but happy with what we have. Probably buy a small plane. Been tinkering with getting my PPL and buying a small cheap plane just for personal travel. Other than that I would just pay off everything of ours and our kids and parents and give them some to invest and I would invest the rest. We would definitely donate a bunch to some animal shelters and a few charities. I'd be the guy paying off lay-aways at Wal Mart...lol
Planes like boats, are not cheap...

A play on an old joke:

Reporter to boater [farmer] that just won the lottery:
"What are you going to do with the money you won?"

Boater [farmer] after a pause:
"Well....... probably just keep boating [farming] until its gone"

Easy decision....There is a such a thing as too big a boat for lk st clair but this one would be absolutely perfect and imo one of the nicest boats searay has ever built, this one in particular. I’ll drive a duffle bag full of cash out there next week when i win tonight. :)

Nice boat. A related article for you.

lol. Yeah I 172 is about $175/hour to rent but that includes fuel. Not something I would be looking to rent for a whole weekend...lol. If I go through with it I'd probably rent a few times then buy one but it would be something under $100,000. You can find a decent 172 for about $50,000. The real cost comes from ramp/hangar fees, annual, fuel, etc
don,t forget electronics. couple of my buddies has more in them than the plane.

Ok with all this lottery talk what "Yacht" would you buy and why. Rermember you have to be able to keep it so those 200 footers costing millions a year just don't make sense. What is your dream boat?
Well....
How much is the Loto up to?
She's the Acushnet only 213' so just barely over your limit...
And given the purchase price I could spend the rest on renovations and operations. ($135,000 not a mistake)

Then for just kicking around a 41 footer...

Well, since I would be retiring, It would be several boats instead of a big one. Probably move up to a 310 dancer for Indiana local. Likely a 300 SD for the condo on LOTO. The 52 DB for ICW. I really envy you DB guys.

Wow these are some really modest wants !!! this was a threat about mega millions you know like clearing 300 million and making 10 to 15,000,000 a year and interest alone I think with those kind of numbers I would have a fleet of boats one in the Caribbean one state side and the toys in between

Great article Brad. I wonder how much it costs to ship a Sabre 48 over to Europe ...not to mention the $200k+ in upgrades they did. Good upgrades no doubt. In any case I loved reading about the anchorages in Alaska where only a bear and a whale would be. That was/is our dream as well. My naivety thought that's what it would be like up at Desolation Sound when we first purchased the boat. Ha ..maybe 50 year ago. I still haven't gotten far enough north to experience that and doubt we will with the 340. I wouldn't want to make that passage with our current boat.

BTW I thank you again for all of your tips around Desolation Sound when we were planning our first trip a few years ago. It was all very useful for the two trips we've done there since.

Dan put his Sabre sent to Europe on a ship via United Yacht Transport. IIRC, he said it cost like $20-30k to ship it over.

He has a website that chronicles his adventures if you want to read up on them. http://www.gdanielprigmore.com/
