Love, Love, Love the FreedomLift, due to our transom/swim platform shape it required fiberglass work to produce pockets for mounting the lift. Thanks Steve, I think that might be my first choice . I got a price from sea lift and with installation I could buy a new dinghy in every port I visit and just leave it behind and still have money for beer
 
what is the ball park cost if u don't mind. i already have the towing harness for dinghy and a towdster
for the sea doo and they worked well behind my 39 MY. however i am in the process of purchasing a 2006 44DB
 
Got down to the boat for the weekend, had planned to get organized to install check valve & 10” muffler on the next trip. Discovered it does have a check valve! This job just got easier & cheaper!.

That is a Centex checkvalve - an aftermarket add. Checked mine yesterday and there is nothing on the gen exhaust hose. What is your reason for changing the muffler to a 10" model? looks like a few others have gone this route as well.
 
There was been a bit discussion on this thread lately as to weather the check valve came stock on some boats. I bought ours used, so can’t say for sure. My guess is it was stock. Switching to the 10“ muffler in an attempt to quiet down the genny noise. Seems others have had success with the switch!
 
FreedomLifts are priced around 25k plus install so around 30k all done. A lot of boat$s yes but, great
to have & use. Also felt it would add to sale-ability & value when that day comes.

I switched out the factory 6” dinky muffler on my 400DB. I called Centek and they recommended their 9” dual stage muffler part number 1529001. So I bought it. Good news it was plug and play install. I didn’t even need to cut down the top hose. A fellow CSR 400DB owner, My3sons, replaced his at the same time and went with the 10” single stage. He had to do some minor work to fit it in. We’ve compared sound reduction and hard to tell which one is quieter. But there definitely is more water sound and less exhaust sound coming out of the hole. But, the rata-tat-tat of the motor through the cockpit floor is still the driving noise you hear. Muffler doesn’t do anything for that. The 10” was half the price of the dual stage. $200 vs. $400.
 
My job for today is to install my check valve. The new generator isn’t in yet so I should have lots of space to make this job a piece of cake. If only it was above freezing that would be nice.

Boy if I had the gen out of the way “would have so much room for activities”..lol. I would actually service the master vacuflush for sure because those things crap out on you at the the worst times and that one is a PIA to get to.

Does your new gen come with the sound shield? One more thing to make note of in terms of the new gen. Your model year is newer than mine so may be a non issue,but when they replaced ours they did not upgrade the gauges. Took me a bit of time trying to figure out why they were not working. Turns out I needed the new digital display panel.
 
Did I say piece of cake ? Forgot I’m working on a boat. The sound shield is extra but yes. I’m working with Cummins to see if the sea ray wire harness will plug into new gen so at least the start/stop and battery disconnect relay will work from old panel.
 
I’m looking at moving my transom locker aft to increase the area of the cockpit. This may involve modifying my current transom or manufacturing a new one.

I noticed Riviera in particular and some other builders are taking the transom past the hull sides. I also saw a 52 on the weekend with the mod done. Looked great.

Would be interested in your pro’s and con’s .

Interesting idea. Seems like a big job to get it right and properly integrated with the aft corners and transom door. Probably would require modifying the transom module to match the contours. The obvious location would be to match the port side contour aft of the shower hatch. You would need to manufacture a new door to look right. Not sure if that location would avoid being on top of the swim platform ladder. There is a fair amount of electrical that may need to be rerun as well.

The obvious Pro is more cockpit space, as you mentioned.
Cons: A lot of effort to gain I am guessing ~8" of space unless you make really big changes (even more effort), integrated swim platform may look strange, necessitates an extended swim platform (looks like you already have one), potentially awkward access when swim platform lowered, impact on resale unclear.

I think I would maybe get a bigger boat! :)

If you check out the newer 52DB the cockpit seat seems to also be recessed into the transom area thats a pretty smart move by SR to gain more space in the cockpit. I would look at this before moving the whole transom. You would lose all your transom storage however. Still seems like a lot of work though. Maybe cheaper to just get a different boat.

Does anyone know what size fireboy to replace old unit with in a 44DB. seems they are rated by square foot.

You raise some good points. A bigger boat isn’t an option, we love our 44 and would never part with her. Perfect size for us but some extra cockpit space would be nice. As we have the extended platform we don’t need to use the built in moulded platform.

The transom does seem modular and not built in so removing it wouldn’t be out of the realms of possibility. Perhaps manufacturing a new much narrower transom with eutectic fridge/cooler might work. I’m hoping to gain more than 8” though. I’m guessing 2 to 3 feet gain. No transom doors either I’m thinking. It would be narrow enough to allow the built in ladder to remain.

I’ll get the shipwrights down to take a look and keep you posted on any updates.

Great job.. It gives a great impression although I would ideally make it narrower so you could still use the swim platform ladder.
 
I’m a scuba diver I tell my wife I could remove the transom and leave it wide open. She was one a dive boat once, she kept telling me not to fall out the back.

How do you carry your tender? I don’t see a lift and am still trying to decide which system to use

It certainly makes sense. A shipwright mate is going to look into it for me. I told him it must look factory. Attached is a 52. The extra space is phenomenal and the lines still look great.
