Apple Watch Faces and Complications

Sounds like a great set up!
The only things to watch out for, prepare for, are:
1) over heating, keep the iPad out of the sun!
2) battery! I have a usb charger installed in the old mic location, and use that to charge the iPad as needed.

Good points Todd. I have the ipad on a ram mount high enough that it usually doesn't get direct sun light, and I installed a USB charger so that the ipad is always charged when underway.

I use an iPad Pro LTE as my main plotter with Navionics as my navigation app. I also use boat beacon for AIS, which integrates with navionics, and I have a Ray marine wi-fish fish finder that also integrates with navionics. All of this can he replicated on my wife’s iPad if mine fails, or either of our iPhones. As a last resort I have my old plotter that I mainly use for radar, but I do keep the maps current.

Has the heat ever bothered it? What about water?

The heat has bothered mine if it gets direct sunlight. Most of the time that’s not an issue, but it does happen. Being at the helm, it can get wet but that is rare. If it’s pouring down rain, which happens, I take it down and either stop moving, or I keep going and use my plotter. I would like to find an inexpensive mount with heat sink and waterproofing (only entry points for water are the charging port, headphone jack (not all models, thank goodness) and speakers. Charging increases heat, so take that into consideration...

Haven't had any problems here. The ipad is mounted on a ram mount high up in a way that most of the time it gets shade from teh radar arch or the canvas. It has never overheated. It's in a lifeproof case, so water is also not an issue if it gets splashed.
