Official 19SPX/21SPX/SPX190/SPX210 Thread

Just a quick tip for those of you choosing to trailer with the covers off... a 10lb, rubber weight lifting plate laid on a white towel on top of the seat does the trick.

Yes, mine was flapping on the piano hinge with the windshield closed.
Are the mooring covers (bow and cockpit) trailerable?

I did trailer mine with the covers on from NJ to FL. I put a few bungie cords across just for insurance. I didn't have an issue. I wouldn't be comfortable relying on just the snaps to hold them on.

When we are on the interstate, heading toward the lake, we always play a game. The one that counts the most PFDs, cushions or cooler covers on the side of the road wins.

I can't remember a time that I trailered with NO cover. In fact, she is always covered in the garage as well. Sure makes a difference re. dust, dirt, bugs and spiders. The boat we sold last year was 35 years old and the upholstery still looked like new.

Snap-on cockpit and tonneau covers should be OK to trailer as far as ripping or falling off. However, extensive use may stretch them and make them lose water repellency slightly quicker.

Personally, I won't own those covers any more. I just hate the snaps marring the deck from stem to stern. Our current 190 SPX was factory ordered with their OEM mooring cover. Its easy on and off and holds tight on the road because of its Vac-U-hold technology. Nicest cover I ever bought.

Propeller question. My new to me 2018 SPX 190 with 200hp Mercruiser 4.5l came with a 4 blade 14x19 spitfire prop. I appear to be hitting 5400 rpm (gauge) at 44mph (gps) with smooth water trimmed out right with 4 on board. What is the stock prop? The RPM and the speed seem to be pointing to the previous owner wanting a hole shot prop instead of the factor prop. Are you guys happy with the factory prop? I have more acceleration than needed for pulling 2 tubes loaded with people. It would be nice to bring the revs down and add another 4-5 mph as this engine is supposed to target 4800rpm correct?

Ours is the 150 OB and we're quite happy hitting 50 mph with a SS Enertia 3-blade.

No personal experience but BoatTest.com reviewed your boat. Their test with the factory 19" Black Max prop showed a top end of 47.5 MPH at 4800 rpm. I didn't write down the specifics, but the video showed an awesome hole shot.

Has anyone cut a hatch in the starboard console like is in the port console under the glove box? From looking up through the ski locker, there appears to be a little useable room. I'll try to put a tape measure on it and see if it's worth it.

Jeremy, Have you had a chance to install your water separator filter yet?
No, I have not. I haven’t put that many hrs on the boat the last 2 seasons as we bought the 520DB last year so that project got put on the back burner.
I always empty my fuel tank in the spring and flush with a couple gallons of fresh gas and then change the on engine fuel filter so hasn’t been a issue yet but definitely a good thing to do.

I just got around to putting in the trim tabs I bought last May for the boat. Summer got away from me with boating and work. Will be interested in seeing how they perform next spring. They are 12” Bennett Bolt electric tabs. I wanted to be able to trim the boat without having to move passengers around. I found with the passenger side lounge we tend to list to port a lot when running. It will also be nice to able to get skiers out of the hole quicker when we are loaded with people.

Nice job. That should solve the listing issues for sure.

Do you guys have a recommendation for a cover to keep the debris out when stored in the garage. The catch is I have the wakeboard tower so the cover has to go over the tower with the tower down. It would also be nice if the cover was tall to keep help protect the boat.
Thanks

Since it is in the garage, maybe just a tarp will work.

Hey guys, I’m trying to figure out what I need to do with our 190SPX (4.5 stern drive) during the offseason. I stays parked in our garage which doesn’t get below 60 during the winter. Last time we took it out was on 9/27 and I filled up the gas tank with non-ethanol after running the fuel to near empty that day. We’d been hoping to get back out for a warm day before the weather turned cool, but it never happened. With daytime highs in the 50s/60s for the foreseeable time ahead, I doubt we’ll be going out soon. We bought the boat new in June this year. Would love your thoughts!

The Mercruiser Owner's Manual details it all.

Add stabil and run on muffs to pass the stabilized gas thru the system. Drain the block, change the motor oil, change the gear oil and lubricate the fittings that need lubrication. Lower the outdrive, loosen the trailer straps and air the tires. Disconnect the negative battery terminal and charge once a month or so. Clean wax and polish the hull and the upholstery. Check the bilge to ensure it is 100% dry. Cover the newly detailed boat with canvas or sunbrella or equivalent. Review marine catalogs all Winter to see what handy gadgets you can buy for Spring installation.

Someone may argue the need to drain the block. It only takes a few minutes and costs nothing, so why not. I have been in FL already when the temp unexpectedly dropped way below freezing and boat owners had to scramble to do it then.

Hi all.

New member here -- glad to be aboard! Couple of questions -- would appreciate any input you could offer.

Trolling Motor
Bought our first boat last fall, a 2019 SPX 210 and am enjoying it very much. One of my sons has gotten in to fishing so I am exploring some options of adding a trolling motor setup. I believe Sea Ray use to offer that as an option but due to lack of interest, no longer offers it. Has anyone added a trolling motor setup after the fact? If so, could you share what setup, brand, model, etc.. you went with?

Winter Fishing and Winterization Options
If my son and I want to use the boat late this fall and winter to fish, I'm confused on whether or not it is possible for me to completely drain the engine of water during the winter months after every time we use the boat. Can I simply drain the water out of my engine (4.5L 250HP Mercruiser Alpha drive) using the engine owner manual procedure for "Manual Single Point Drain System" after using the boat every time?

FYI, we store our boat in a lot up the hill from the marina --- we put it in and take it out of the water every time we use the boat. Part of the deal in buying the boat was a free winterization so last fall we had the marina winterize it (pink fluid) and then stored it in the lot over the winter and didn't use it until this spring.

Thanks again for any input you can share.

Have you made any decision on how you are going to handle you boat this winter. We live in Augusta, GA and have a 21SPX with the 4.5L 250 on order. It is supposed to be delivered in January. It will be stored in a wet slip up on a lift. Since we do have many warm days here, I like the idea of the "Manual Single Point Drain System". I have looked for others that use it though the winter, but most of the post s I am finding are from those that live up north and have to completely winterize their boats. Thank you for any help you can provide.

Hi All,

Looking at purchasing an SPX 210 OB. Not my first boat. Looking for thoughts, impressions, pitfalls. I would be going with the 200 Merc.

Looking to buy new. What is reasonable % off retail to offer?

Thanks in advance.

Robert

Leave it in and use it but I would drain the raw water in case of cold snap between uses. pull it once a year to change lubes and service.

Here are two videos for drawing the raw water if you hit a cold snap. Yours may be different slightly, more so if you have closed cooling

I’m on my second sea ray bow rider. Currently have a 04 200 sport, the spx21 is what this boat size morphed into.

I really like cockpit layout and walkthrough stern. I have found that my 91 and this 04 have held up extremely well from a hull finish and upholstery standpoint. Financially I’ve always had older boats, I probably have another 8-10 years on my current boat but will likely get a new to me spx 21 perfect size fir my boating ( inland lakes) water sports with my family and a my kids friends.
Get the highest hp offered, I’ve never had a boat with too much power
