Has anyone changed your front bow cushions to ones, like the newer ones, that let you adjust so you can sit up or lay down? If so, how did you do this?

U-Line ice maker help...

Hi all, I hope you were all able to enjoy a Thanksgiving holiday celebration yesterday.

My cockpit icemaker essentially works GREAT! Except that there is a small leak on the back wall coming from the water inlet line. When the maker "calls" for water is when the leak/drip takes place. Any suggestions on how to stop this? It is such a hard place to get to from the inside and I don't know how to remove the water container/icemaker.

Any feedback would be appreciated!!
Have a GREAT weekend!

Your best bet is to take it off the boat and on the bench to take it apart properly to find the issue. Inside the ice maker assembly unscrews and comes out but your issue sounds like it is external. Plus while it is out you can clean the coil real good. My old boat had one and worked on it a couple times, found it easier to just take it home and on a bench with a hose hooked up too it.

You were right...removing it from the boat made it so much simpler!!!

So. after some well needed cleaning of the condenser/coils...I adjusted the fill tube and re=set the sealant around it. Then I adjusted the amount of water that enters the freezing chamber down a little bit. Unfortunately it only helped a little bit...There are still two water "drip" locations at the front and rear of the tray. I am thinking the freeze tray may be corroded or possibly cracked which is allowing the slight bit of water to leak.

On another note, don't get too disgusted with the pics, but YUCK! Either it's corrosion or hard water calcification...nonetheless it needs a good cleaning!

Does anyone know what the replacement part would be if I don't get it form U-Line??? The U-Line part is ridiculous at $255.00 whereas others on the market ranged from $40.00 to $80.00. Sure would be nice to find a compatible replacement as opposed to the U-Line model. Based on how the tray looks, it may be best to just replace it!!

Remove that and dump some barnacle buster in there to get rid of the calcification. Then test it again. It may be so calcified that you are just overfilling.

Wolf,
Has the icemaker been replaced at least once? My first one gave problems when the boat was 11 years old. I had a similar drip on the back of the unit and spoke with the local Sea Ray dealer in Michigan. I was also getting black "chips" in the ice, the cause being similar to the deterioration I see in your photos. My intent was to repair it but they advised against it and said the money is better spent on a new icemaker. I replaced it in 2013 and expect another three of four years of service.

Hi James,
No, this is the original ice maker based on the Sea Ray writing on the top of it. :) To be honest, it has been working marvelously, I almost hated to "tamper" with it, other than the water drip down the back wall. I figured that would be an easy enough fix. I was going with the if it ain't broke, don't fix it mantra, but...I failed! I am bored with my other chores so decided to jump into this and learn a thing or two.

I was able to get the ice maker assembly out tonight and the material I thought was possibly calcium build up, was actually some sort of milky white liner over the steel tray. Yes, it is chipping and flaking off, but we never saw it in our ice.. (Well, Jack Daniels never complained about it anyway). I have the unit sitting on my bench and decided to put water in it to see if it may be cracked and that is where the drip is coming from. NADA, no water dripping anywhere.

So, I have cleaned it and will re-install it tomorrow and see what happens. If it works, GREAT...if it doesn't, no harm no foul, we just get a new one and I learned something new along the way. Although I am baffled as to where the water was leaking over the tray at and leaking into the ice box????

More to follow!!

I’m no ice maker expert, but here’s what I’ve been told. I have a friend that manages the service warehouse for a large local home appliance company. I had the same issues that you seem to have and he set me up with a replacement ice maker unit for my u-line, it seems it is the same as a great many home fridge units and it was considerably cheaper than one from u-line. It was several years ago so my memory of installing it is a little foggy but it was easy and I know that the pigtail with the new unit had one wire that was not used. He also told me that the coating coming off the cube mold is further aggravated by using antifreeze to winterize the unit. He said that even though a lot of folks do that, it will eventually wreck the mold. Follow the instructions in the manual on how to winterize it.
I repaired the ice maker and hooked it up to a water source and bench tested it and it worked great. It has ever since been in my basement waiting to be reinstalled when I sell the boat. I don’t care about having an ice maker. I’d rather have the storage space. Here is a picture I just took of the part number?
Maybe you can use this information.
Good luck.

Anyome.here happen to know what anchor light we have on our boat? Only the front part of the anchor light is shining and I thought the back (rear facing) was supposed to light up too for that 360*?

Since posting up that I swapped anchors from the Delta FastSet 55lb to the Ultra 60, I wanted to follow up and comment on some of my own personal observations.

* One major thing I've noticed is that this anchor sets right away. There isn't a huge need to back down own it. Unlike the stock (Kodiak) and Delta Fast set.

* This anchor, once set, it's set and despite the boat moving around, it doesn't require much babysitting unlike the other 2 anchors.

* I don't need to let as much scope out.

* I anchor in mostly sand and mud and this anchor literally sets immediately.

I know this is a very expensive anchor and believe me, I didn't want to eat that kind of expense. However, even my wife has commented how much easier this anchor is and that, in her words, was worth the $$$$ spent. We go on the hook quite a bit and now we can relax vs. getting up all hours of the night checking to ensure we haven't drifted hundreds of feet.

Hope this helps.

P.S. - Saturday, we only had one anchor (the ultra) and myself (Searay 460) as well as our friends 47 Fountaine Pajot catamaran overnight.... the anchor held perfectly if that's any testament.

Water leaking over the ice tray. I had that and by turning the screw to put a little less water in the tray, it stopped leaking.

Those of you who replaced the gold cabinet hardware, do any of you still have the gold push knobs?
