Hey all,

New to this forum and new to the world of Sea Ray. We are the third owner of a 1992 300 Sundancer with twin 4.3l and Alpha One Gen II sterndrives. This is our second boat. The first is a 1977 19' General Marine Ranger with the fun loving Mercruiser 470 with pre Alpha drive.

We spent over an hour on this boat before we wrote the check. And now finding that the previous owner didn't believe in any real maintenance as everything is almost original. And now finding all the things not working that he lied and said did. But I guess that is how it is.

Well off to find a bigger pick up and reseal the gimbals. I still can't fathom why anyone would run a boat with bellows torn.

John

Welcome to a great forum with tons of insight from smart boaters.

my first 4 boats I bought by test drive and looking. My current boat I hired a surveyor, best 5-600 bucks yoh can spend. I also had a mechanical survey, but the marine one will always pay for itself....

Welcome to CSR, you'll find tons of advice here regarding repairs and upkeep

John, welcome to CSR. I had to rely on Google Maps to find out where Sheridan is. Wow, you're kind of right in the middle of that part of OR, aren't you.

How about sharing some pics of your boat. We all like to see photos of boats.

Survey had been done a couple of years ago. And had it looked at by insurance company. The insurance company found records of transfer and a filing with the Coast Guard out in Coeur d'Alene ID. But both checks do no good for the lack of care for the craft. So the structure is awesome. But now worried about a sound in the starter on the port motor. Hey it's only money, Right.

Lol, that’s right, it’s only money.

not many make money on boats, and most just hope to get what I paid for it when I sell, which doesn’t include all the money I stick into upgrades...

Yeah, I knew there was going to be the standard upkeep items. And the "must haves" that make things "yours". But it's when they flat out lie to you just to get the more than asking price that gets me. Good thing Oregon has laws to protect people from issues like this. I wouldn't have given $20k knowing it needed a new motor. I just despise the crooked nature of some people's children these days. But on the bright side, I could always sell it to the homeless as a beach or river house for them to leave sitting on the side of the road somewhere.

I've been through what, page 12 or was that 20something now. Must not be too many owners of the BETA class of 300DA's. I've reached the late 2000's models now. I started reading at about 11 am. Just don't tell the boss I've been slacking at work. Oh, wait! I am the boss, so I guess it's ok then. HA! A lot of useful info in there. Not much yet to help me in my searches yet. Thanks for the distraction of covid and lumber prices. Lets see what tomorrow brings.

Hows this? From the day my wife bought her first boat. And it was her birthday to boot.
