I flush my engines after every use but never the generator. On my new boat I plan to run the generator often since I heard that is best for it. Do you flush the generator? If so, how?
Would hooking a hose up to this and running the generator while on the lift work?

We run 2 gallons of pink through it at the end of the season. I take the hose off the sea strainer, put it in a bucket, put 2 gallons of pink in bucket, start generator when bucket is empty tun the generator off.

Do NOT use that fitting - very easy to hydrolock a gen - 99% of gens are closed cooling so you are only worried about the exhaust and heat exchanger - I used to close the seacock and take the cap off the strainer and put the running hose right in the strainer and let it overflow in the bilge (instead of build up pressure like it would with the cap) - then start the gen - after a few times you will get a feel for how high you need to turn the hose up to just keep up with the gen and not overflow into the bilge

Thank you for the advice. I forgot they were closed cooling.

No need to close the seacock if you use that cap for a fresh water flush. Even if there is a small amount of salinity in the water you are flushing through the motor, most opinions I have read is it is insignificant.
Also prevents one from forgetting to OPEN the seacock before firing it up the next time.
