Official (1998-2002) 310 Sundancer Thread

I know. 1400 hours seems to be the most I've seen on any boat we looked at, regardless of it being FWC. That's a major concern with this one.
Well, 1400 hours is a good negotiating point. It is inevitable that the next owner (you?) will be replacing them. Price that in and see what happens...

Hello All, I’m shopping (more accurately dreaming by looking online) for a 99-01 310 Sundancer. My question is why do some helm stations have separate shift and throttle levers even though they are mercruiser stern drive vessels while others have the typical mercruiser shift/throttle on the same stick? Some vessels look like they would have V-drives but the ad claims mercruiser Bravo III. Are there actually some 310’s out there that have separate shift levers but are bravo III’s?
Was this an option Sea Ray offered?
Thanks in advance.

I noticed that with Amberjacks too. A lot of the 290 Amberjacks are set up that way.

Does anyone know where I can find an owner's manual for a 1999 310 Sundancer, or even just an outline showing all the dimensions? I'm in the process of buying one that is out of state and I need to give the overall height to the boat mover to double check bridge clearances. I have found this information for some other models but not for this one. Thanks

Sea ray website has it. Owners section I believe.

Interesting that Sea Ray seems to have deleted those manuals from their website. However, if you go to 2002 drop down, both the Owners Manual and Supplement are available. I'm fairly certain that the information is pretty much the same as the 1999. (The dimensions that you are looking for are in the Supplement, pg 5.) https://www.searay.com/us/en/owners.html

Thanks for the responses. I was concerned about using the dimensions from a different year because a minor change to the radar arch could be a problem in this case. I'm surprised that the drawing in the 2002 supplement doesn't include the shafts & props (for inboards) or outdrives (for stern drives) in the dimensions. I've seen other years that do.

If anyone has a 1999 manual, I'd be happy to pay for one.

I'm sure that you can get it from Sea Ray for free. Just contact them at 865-971-6250. They are really great about that stuff.

Thanks, I'll give that a try!

Hi all!

I have completed reading all 105 pages of this thread!

And no, I'm not going to:

Ask what WOT RPMs should be or MPG at 3200 RPMs or what RPM is needed to plane
OR whether v-drives or outdrives are better
OR how to diagnose water ingestion issues with v-drive models
OR why the tension finger gets worn in the windlass
OR why there are 3 batteries 1 for port 2 for starboard
OR how to mount a new flatscreen TV in the V-berth...

I'm just going to post this link to a boat I made an offer on yesterday:
https://www.boattrader.com/boat/2000-sea-ray-310-sundancer-6161947/

I'm heading down to Page AZ from my home of Moab post election day, to jump in the lake and lake test the boat!

Are you going to ask about generators on the swim platform? That would be fun. :)

You certainly did read all the pages in this thread!

Good luck with the purchase!

Nah, there's a generator in this motorwell. I wouldn't look at it without it.

The seller just accepted my offer. I'm thowing down my deposit and moving forward.

Trying to organize a mechanic to do a compression check to ascertain whether nor not there has been any water ingestion into a couple of the cylinders. Everybody is swamped here in Page AZ doing winterizing....Kirk Out

Awesome. Congrats. Hope the survey goes well!

Hello all,

I have joined the forum to specifically get some information on the 310 Sundancer. I am shopping for a new boat and have looked at some others, but I recently saw a 2000 310 with 5.7 Horizons. I really fell in love with the boat, but have some questions about the fuel consumption and llifespan of those engines. They have about 700 hours on them, and due to the fresh water cooling, I would imagine that there should be some good life left, but I would like some advice there.

Also, my feelings on fuel consumption would be to expect about 20 GPH at cruise on the Horizons, however is this optimistic for a boat this weight? Are those engines underpowered? Should I be looking for the big blocks?

Also, this boat may need a generator replacement. Westerbeke... what is you guys experiences with cost of rebuild?

I have been perusing this thread for a little while now and could use any advice in shopping for one of these.

Thanks in advance!

Amajamar!

I remember when you were just a young buck rooting around in the yard!

No we haven't.

I was just referring to your 1st post in this thread in 2013. Everybody who has posted often throughout this entire thread is fresh in my memory due to the recent read of all 105 pages.

Big thanks to all of you problem solvers out there helping everyone with their boats! Vida, 340 diesel, Bobeast, Amajamar, billnpat, dvx216, jaywoodz....ect ect ect.

Too many to name! -kirk out

Ahh, yes! Understood! Good luck with the purchase and welcome aboard!

Received a message from the broker Friday morning that while preparing the vessel for the lake test, "It's not revving over 2200rpm".

Not sure if it's port or starboard engine, I'll find out. The seller is paying for shop time to determine the problem and fix it.

While it's being worked on, I'll have the compression test performed.

I remember reading about various sensors that inhibit rpm's when triggered. I'll look that up.

Currently at a $30k offer. We'll see if that holds...

Compression test results:

Port: 1-165 2-165 3-165 4-160 5-158 6-170 7-165 8-162

Starboard: 1-175 2-180 3-170 4-175 5-160 6-165 7-175 8-160

The starboard engine is causing the alarm. Mechanic stated that both engines need a tune-up and possible injector cleaning. My feeling is that the seller should have that work performed to complete the sale. However, I'm not all that savvy on protocol, since I have already talked him down in price with my purchase offer. Split the cost of the tune-up or not?
