460 DA Owners Thread

LOL ... yep!
When talking with the admiral about doing the whole conversion lights, knobs, switch plates I guessed it would be around 2k.
In the picture that is the knobs for the whole cabin heads included. The switch plate are just for the main salon will get the rest down the road.

Question can the trim line of gold be replaced that is all around the cabin and look as good as the factory install?

Was there a post that someone did that they where able to rub the gold finish off of the can lights?

i did the can lights.:) I had two, oddly enough, that the brass finish would not come off of though. Luckily I had 3 extras so it all worked out.

I would love to replace the gold trim with silver as well...but first we need to find it! The easiest one to replace in my opinion will be the one at the Galley counter. That bolster unscrews to come off and then you’ll access the mounting point for the gold trim. The gold trim on the cabinets is another story because I don’t know how the vinyl trim pieces are attached. I’m afraid to start crying went off without knowing what I’m getting into and ultimately ruin something that’s not replaceable.

Agreed on the trim.

Did you do all the knobs and switch plates?

Wolf,

After changing out all of my knobs, switch plates, and lights on my 410DA back in 2016 the last thing left was that gaudy gold trim on the edge of my countertop, and above my galley cabinets. I searched what seemed like everywhere and was walking around Home Depot one day when I noticed the floor edge trim for tile was almost exactly what I needed but not quite. When I got home I went online, and found that they sold exactly what I needed and ended up ordering Schluter Schiene Bright Chrome Anodized Aluminum 1/4" tall in 8' lengths. They didn't sell the 1/4" in their radius series so I had to cut the "back bone" off, and made a number of v shaped notches on my band saw to make it flexible enough to follow the contour around the bottom of the countertop, and the the top of the cabinets and also pre-drilled all the holes for the tiny screws I used to install it. I can't find any pics of the finished installation, but can tell you it turned out great. I see now they have stainless available in 1/4" radius, however it's the brushed finish. Below is a pic of what I used, and the stainless made for radius'.

That's great! Will need to look into this for part of my winter project upgrade list. :)

How do the vinyl wrapped caps come off? Under the sink it is fastened with screws but above the cabinets, I can't feel/find any fastening device. This leads me to believe it could be like the "Christmas" tree press in fasteners?

What did you experience?

Mine had the "Christmas" tree type fasteners. I ended up screwing down the edging, and then pre-drilling the aluminum where needed to re-install the vinyl caps with the "Christmas" tree fasteners, and adhesive/caulk. Then gently clamped in place.

On my '02 boat there is a mix of mainly chrome with some gold (or brass). I did as Wolf suggested for the overhead lamps and polished off the brass. Worked quite well and now they are chrome. Our switch plates and cabinet knobs were chrome anyways with a touch of gold accent on the plumbing taps. The little gold band around the cabin remains. I was going to live with that but now that a solution has emerged, maybe I'll try that. But I'll let Wolf do it first....

Challenge accepted....Started the research process today, then ordered the chrome Schluter trim! Home depot did not have a bright chrome so I found this company which was also less expensive. https://kofflersales.com/

For the knobs and rosettes, I am going to order from this company...Flounder Pounder is just too expensive!!

Took a couple pics of the trim removal...more to follow. The bottom picture is the cabinet above the galley...just lifted it a bit to expose the "Christmas" tree.

Looks like you've figured it out Wolf! Nicely done!

Yes, I seem to count on Wolf to do the ground work. The nice thing is that we both have the maple interior so it is of particular interest for me.

The up/down function is actuated by a separate elevator motor inside the light unit. This is likely to be the cause of your issues.
Contact Carlos at ACR carlos.guerra@cobham.com for assistance and parts, he has been very helpful in the past as i have had exactly the same issues.

Great thread (sorry to bring it up) but I’m experiencing no movement at all — side to side nor up/down. The light comes on but takes a while (still troubleshooting). Motor issues? Grounding issue? I did look for chaffed wires but couldn’t find anything that stood out.

Seems odd that the light takes a while to come on. First steps would to perform a voltage drop test and a load test on all associated grounds as the motors for movement may draw more current then the light itself.

What a BEAUTIFUL day it was today when UPS pulled in with this package!! I think I may launch the boat again to make up for the lost 2 months at the end of the Season! Thanks 401Kation (Doug) for making this happen! Now to get it installed.

That’s awesome.. I have been following your posts on this and even asked a couple of buddies here in FTL if they had one back when you were going crazy looking. Glad to see you got one...

I would love to sit down at a well equipped bench with both the old/failed and the new and your boat/engine wiring diagram.

I may be able to grant that wish...:) At least 2/3 of it!
I have the wiring diagram and of course the bad control unit. I am not holding my breath, but Marine Parts Express has a new unit on order for me and the charge went through today. They told me if the charge goes through it means the part shipped...we shall see! If I get a tracking # tomorrow, that's a game changer. Again, I am not holding my breath that it is actually in stock, but Fred from MPE was adamant that after 2 calls to VP USA Warehouse, they said they had it.

I did tell Fred that if he had to call and say it really wasn't in stock, that I understand and won't be mad. LOL

I want to relocate the cockpit A/C control. Currently it is in the compartment next to the Helm seat. It is a pain for the admiral to keep adjusting it when she is on the boat. Has anyone else relocated theirs or have pictures of different locations that they were installed on 460's
