Official 47 Sedan Bridge Owners Group

I’m considering replacing the 2 drawers below the starboard galley counter. The drawers are short because originally the TV retracted into this space. My TV is now mounted on top of the cabinet. I’m a woodworker so I can remake the drawers and attach the original drawer fronts. Has anyone else done this?

You should certainly do it. Ours came with the large drawers and can't imagine not having this storage available for the pantry.

We had the mounted TV, with the drawers.

I think you would appreciate the extra space. If you are confident in your skills matching the trim - I don't see any downside.

Ok, I’m going to do it. An over the winter project. I’ll post pics when completed. Thank you for your responses.

Hello all. We are a past Sea Ray owner, looking to get back into the family. My wife and I both think the 47 is perfect for us. Is there anything in particular we should look for when purchasing the boat? Is there anything you don't like about the boat that we should consider before making the decision? Thanks, Mike

We took the plunge and are now proud owners of the 47. I have a few questions for any 47 owners:

Do you have a problem with the showers dumping into the bilge? Both the showers seem to be putting some water into the bilge and the only place I can see is where the soft material meets the fiberglass by the port hole is allowing water to pass. Anyone else having issues here?

There is a drain at the base of the stairs for the bridge that dumps water into the cockpit. Where is this coming from? Is this the bridge AC condensate?

Hi! Welcome to the group! I’m glad that you bought the 47. Sorry I didn’t see your post earlier.

my showers just started giving me problems this weekend! I keep getting a high water alarm on the forward sump. It’s located under the master bed. It’s odd that it dumps there and not into a sump box. I ordered a replacement float and pump. Hope it works! I’ve not noticed any water coming into the cockpit from a bridge drain.

I had water in the forward bilge which appears to be coming from the shower. The surveyor thought it was the shower porthole where the fiberglass meets soft material as there is no seal there.

The water in the cockpit turned out to be the connection at the sink on the bridge. I also had water in the transom from the faucet there! Wherever they used those black Watts fresh water fittings to a standard pipe fitting leaks. I had to cut the hoses and switch the connectors.

This boat looks like it had multiple shower sump overflows as the forward bilge and under the master was a mess. I believe the hot water tank must of sat in water for a long time as there is a moldy smell which I believe is now coming from the hot water heater itself. Since this seems to be a problem area I am considering upgrading the sump and pump to something more robust.

Can you tell me a little about the Bose system? I am removing the old satellite as that doesn’t seem to work. Can the tv itself feed the Bose system? I don’t see how if I use just the tv it can feed audio to the Bose. Also, there are two Speakers in the forward stateroom but I have no idea how to use them!

Thanks,

Mike

Mike,

Our boats have some of the same issues. My bridge sink has been leaking also.

I still have the satellite connected to the system, but I haven’t activated it. I hear from many that they don’t work very well. I have played DVD’s in the Bose and the sound played in surround sound through the system. I haven’t tried broadcast TV through the Bose.

I have 2 speakers in the forward stateroom that are Bose.
I just bought the boat last August. As 2020 has been a horrible year and I had family duties to attend to, I haven’t used the boat that much. I did go out for 5 days last week and it was wonderful. So I’m Still in the process of going through the boat and trying to get everything figured out.

Do you have the issue with the cabinets delaminating?

Edith

So the bridge leaking is due to the fitting they used. There is no way it will ever seal. You will need to change it to a standard style fitting. I went to the local hardware store and used a standard flexible sink hose and made connections to a barb fitting.

Yes, I have a few spots where the cabinets have delaminated. I contacted Sea Ray and they tell me the laminate used in my boat is available.

Getting the TVs to feed the Bose is on my todo list for the winter.

Thank you for the advice about the bar sink. I will try that. I asked my dealer and they told me the laminate wasn’t available. I’ll call Sea Ray. I upgraded from a 2004 320 Sundancer. My cabinets were still beautiful. Apparently they switched vendors and it wasn’t a wise move.

Here's what I got from Sea Ray: " The cabinet laminate in this boat is Lignapal. The choices were high gloss cherry or high gloss dark cherry. If you type Lignapal into Google search it brings up several companies that carry it." I spoke to
Jim Meier, Sea Ray and Meridian Yachts 321 449-8628 JMeier@Searay.com.

I just went to the site and requested samples! I'll let you know how I make out.

Hot Water Heater.jpg

I had a terrible smell in my main stateroom. After cleaning and disinfecting the bilge from what looked like numerous shower sump overflows from previous owners, I still had an odor I couldn't pinpoint. The source turned out to be the hot water heater. On top of the schmutz from the shower sump, the fittings for the hot water heater were leaking putting more water in the bilge. So far I have found 3 fresh water leaks on this boat.

Time for a new hot water heater and a redesign on how it sits in the bilge.

Yikes! Does your shower run into a bilge sump box or just into the engine room bilge.

it’s a good thing that you are mechanically inclined!

The showers run into the sump box. In reviewing this a little close, I believe the water leaks are what caused the problems with the water heater, not the shower sump. The bilge area where the water heater is located is physically higher than the shower sump. When the shower sump overflows, it sits in that area of the bilge directly in front of the water heater. I believe the bilge pump should turn on (hopefully) before the water would flow into the area where the water heater is located.

Hey guys, I had the power supply go bad on the refrigerator/freezer in the saloon on my 47DB. I reached out to Sea Ray to inquire how to remove the wood trim around the refrigerator so that I could unscrew the trim kit and slide out the refrigerator.

I discovered that the panel in the attached diagram was attached with "christmas tree stud" fasteners and (8) screws. The screws were easily accessible from the back of the electric TV enclosure. This diagram would have saved me a significant amount of time so, hopefully if you need to remove the refrigerator or microwave you will find this helpful.

I wondered how that was put together. Thanks for posting and I am going to save that drawing.

I'm about to tackle fixing my washing machine and obtained the drawings to take that cabinet apart.

I guess while I am posing Sea Ray drawings I should also include the "Drainage" drawing.
