Questions about installing inverters..

If you just want to run a couple fans, it’s easy and cheap to add some 12v outlets in the cabin. There should already be a 12 V DC distribution bus with fuses or you could add a second one (Blue Sea Systems make great products for this). Use properly sized 2 strand tinned marine wire and some good outlets, and you would be in business. The bonus would be these could also be used to charge phones. I be you could add 2 or 3 of these for a couple hundred bucks.

Hell I might add this to my project list. I’m always looking for another 12 receptacle as there is only one at the helm and it is used a lot.

Been following this thread. I installed an inverter in my last boat. I did not have an onboard genny, so I needed it.

With a genny, I added 12v dc outlet in the stateroom. I can get an adaptor for my CPap to run in 12v, I also have a 12v-120v inverter that I use to power my tv and my dvd/fire stick

inverters are approx 85-90% efficient, so if you have access to just a 12 volt adapter (like I use for my cpap) you would waste less power.

Does is also charge when powered by cord? What is the run time?
no, the radio i have does (some do not), but not the fan. I have several milwaukee tools (drill, vacuum, blower) and have 2 or 3 battery on the boat with a charger. they charge in about an hour it seems... so i charge them at the same time as i charge battery and make coffee/use the microwave....

It looks like the 120 adaptor for the milwaukee fan actually converts it to 12v. So you may be able to ad the 12v dc outlet and get an adaptor for the fan to work off that with no loss converting power.... a battery lasts longer than you think. my wife runs it on battery all night, i don't hear that the battery ran out... i think i will get/make a 12 volt adaptor for it...

Another vote for the Caframo fans. Mine is similar to the one linked (has a suction cup base). Its 20 years old and still going strong.

I have all Dewalt tools, so I will be using that system. I also have Dewalt batteries and changer on the boat. I think this is going to be perfect.
