Spoke to my buddy today. Lost his roof and then made it to marina and his 31 Formula is missing.... No idea where it is. They had hardly any time to prepare for this thing, forecast missed it badly. I cannot believe how that feels to go look for your boat and it is not even there!!!!

This picture was taken from my friends condo in orange beach AL... it’s not his pic ...my wife has all the pics but they look exactly the same...their condo and the building is fine and so is their boat it was put away.... but scary stuff

Was listening to news coverage yesterday, one of the local officials made the same comment - the forecast didn't give them any time.

Guess you could say its a hobby of mine, following storms online. I looked at the history of the forecasts, that general area has been the target zone since at least Sunday.

Feels like people are becoming focused on the exact point of landfall, for example New Orleans was the weekend thinking, and forgetting that storms change their mind. The difference between forecasted landfall on Sunday and where it hit a few days later is a hundred miles? Every day the landfall area was being adjusted eastward.

Very sad... can't imagine finding out my 31 foot boat was missing.
As far as missing the forecast... sure it zig-zagged on the 14th and 15th at 2mph, but it was obvious to me that Sally was going to be an issue for the coast line anywhere from New Orleans to Panama City several days in advance.

Lots of sunken boats in Orange Beach. My parents boat was on their lift and took a pretty good beating but is ok. The docks at their condo are destroyed. Sally was a mean bitch.

Never used an outside lift in hurricane area.

How are boats secured to the lift when storms are forecast?

What is the standard practice, secure the boat or take it off the lift?

Curious how that works.

I live in the New Orleans area....Covington to be exact which is about 35-40 miles north of NOLA across Lake Pontchatrain. My wife grew up here but I have only lived here for 4 years.

Every June we watch the beginning of hurricane season closely. Some here take it all very seriously and others kind of....meh. The last few have missed us. When we still had a boat in a marina I had to deal with some wind and storm surge but nothing biblical. The meteorologists do pretty well with predictions. Based on the info provided everyone gets to decide how much they want to prepare. There are countless articles about how to secure your boat to survive a tropical storm or hurricane. If you look at the pics and videos of the area some boats are still sitting pretty while others are sunk and wrecked. It doesn’t take much effort to secure your boat with additional lines and fenders. Some people make the effort and rewarded with a boat where it’s supposed to be after a storm....not in a tree a half mile away.

You can’t assume as storm is not going to hit you and it’s not the eye of the storm that causes the most damage. It’s a large swath of wind and water out 25-75 miles from the eye. People need to prepare better and not blame the weatherman.

Here are some pics in and around my friends place in orange beach AL. He lives on the top floor of the condo in a few pics. No damage to his place and he had his two boats in indoor storage so they are fine too

Wow! I feel for those folks.

WOW - significant damage there, feel sorry for the road ahead for all those folks

I hope @Bridog is okay.
Thanks blaster. Were ok, house ok and as far as I can tell the boats ok. We keep it at Barbers Marina inside storage. The boats in the slips didn’t do so well. It was a SLOW mover making it a very scary night. Thanks for thinking of us. There are a lot of really good people down here who didn’t do as well.
