hello, i am new to this site am looking to upgrade to a bigger boat from a 2004 proline 22 walk and always liked the searays, i found a 1992 searay 330 and going to look at the one i found. is there anything i should be looking for besides the obvious. any input would be great
thanks again

I can speak to this. In May i bought a 1991 250, so close in year to yours. The boat was in incredibly good shape, PO had just done a whole cabin interior re-do and the engine had 460 hours 7.4 Bravo 1, and new cockpit cover and aft camper canvas. so i knew i had a firm foundation to build on. since then i have put in a new macerator, fresh water pump, battery charger, anchor (his was too small for boat), deep cycle battery (had 2 starting batts). and some other incidentals and minor things. soon i will be having the carb rebuilt and this winter may do risers/manifolds. so i am throwing 2k - 3k into it at which point it will be perfect. and i basically stole the boat for the price.
being an older boat we have not done any far trips yet, we used this summer / fall as a shake-down cruise to uncover issues. By next spring we will be traveling cause we will have the confidence.
if you can match this situation, then go for it, prepare to spend a couple thou, if you can get the boat at a price that justifies throwing extra into it.

We are also looking at a couple of 92 330. What specific things are you looking out for? What size motors does the one you're looking at have? I am a little concerned about soft spots around hatches and general wear and tear, knowing it is an older boat I fully expect to put some money into it. Excited but nervous as well. Good luck. Perhaps we can share info as we look at boats?

It will be unusual for a boat of that vintage to not have some rot issues around hatches, through hulls and stringers. So you need to be very vigilant looking for structural issues that are very expensive to repair. Then there are the obvious things which you alluded to such as worn out appliances, water heater, obsolete electronics and engines that are nearing the end of their useful lives. In the absence of complete records, assume the boat has a lot of deferred maintenance issues. Hire a good surveyor. Old boats can be kept running for a long time, but you need to have deep pockets.

Thanks for the information. If we go to an offer and are accepted a full marine survey will be scheduled. "Deep pockets" makes me nervous. Lol
