My boat has bottom paint painted over old crusty barnacles. I got a quote to soda blast the complete bottom and apply new coating. Does this sound like a reasonable price and should I request a certain kind/type of paint. Boat is usually stored on a trailer and used in salt water. But next year I may keep in water.
Thank you...

$95.00 per foot, and includes soda blasting, prepping the bottom, applying the barrier coat and 2 coats of the multi-season paint. You can choose the color you would like. This does not include any repairs of blistering that is found, but we will let you know once is soda blasted.

$2200 to remove painted over barnacles sounds like a reasonable price to me. Bottom paint removal is a job everyone should try once. After that, you will appreciate what a terrible job it is. You don't say where you boat so it's not possible to know the paint best suited for your water conditions. I prefer ablative paints because they wear off smoothly making the next bottom job less of a chore. Launching from a trailer may tip the balance in favor of a hard bottom paint, however, due to the unusual wear and tear. Someone with experience trailer launching bottom painted boats should advise you on that issue.

Sounds pretty good for a complete strip, new barrier coat, and antifouling.

One of the guys at the marina stripped his last year using Aqua Strip from West Marine. He applied it and let it sit several hours per the directions. I walked up as he was scraping it with a plastic scraper and it was coming off easily in thick strips. The barnacles might prevent it from being as easy but it might be worth a try. He had two 1 gallon pails, but he said he was going to return one because he didn't need it. The boat was a 29 footer, I think. He was doing it on a very hot day, and when I mentioned that he could have done it on a cooler day, he said that the heat made the stripper work "better".
