Classic SeaRay being refitted to match modern times. Pulled by a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500

Original mercruiser 260
Im restoring a 1978 SRV w the fly bridge. It has the single Mercruiser 260. The fly bridge has a plate that states 2 people or 450 LBS capacity.

My Question is: What is that capacity of the boat itself?

I cant find a plate or label anywhere stating weight limits.

Additional question: With the remodel and the material changes (Pulling carpet, replacing wood, adding a TV, painting, ect) would that change or effect my weight capacity?

It would effect your weight capacity. You would need to get a dry weight after completion of your remodel and compare it to the factory dry weight, to know the change. Whether that change is insignificant or significant would depend on what you are removing and replacing it with.

i figured as much.
No idea on the weight capacity? I dont want to guess and say 12 or 2000 lbs and its really 8 persons or 1600. Or vise versa and cut myself short.

I would also assume the fly bridge might factor in as well. it adds 200 lbs to the factory build. This is all ive found as far as "weight" goes. Just breaks down factory weight. is there a formula to figure it out? like ......
"weight of boat + Beam x Gunwale / SQ ft - Lbs of gear = Weight capacity"

Or does someone who has this model have their plate still attached?

Thanks guys!

http://boatspecs.iboats.com/Sea_Ray_Boats__240_Sedan_Bridge__1978/bp/66b76025 if accurate would confirm the 4700lb dry weight in your brochure.

You can try the state department that issues your boat registration (NYS DMV for me) to see if they could advise you were to get the information. Someone has to make those determinations for boat builders. Or find a small boat manufacturer in your area and ask them how they do that, wood boat manufacturers for instance. I would wait on that until you are able to provide the dry weight after modifications for the calculations.

Once you know what your capacities are, you can try something like the below to replace the tag.

Thanks a billion!
It at least gives me something to work off of. How long is yours? which motor? one or 2 of them? it also doesnt look like yours have the flybridge.
mines 25 1/2' ...... 4700 lbs dry weight ..... has a 70 gal tank .... and powered by a single merc 260.
Im sure all of those things would change the outcome.

where is your placard located?

My placard is below the steering wheel. Mine was originally a fly bridge, so the weights might be similar, even though the year is different. Mine has twin Merc 140 engines. It’s a 73 SRV 240.

FOUND IT!!! That helped TREMENDOUSLY Tahobe!! The previous owner had removed part of the control panel next to to the steering wheel. That placard was on that!

The answer if anyone else need to know .... Weight limit is 1500lbs and with persons AND gear its 2400lbs
