How bout a cigar thread

I was told by a cigar store owner in Florida that most Cuban cigars are now made with Dominican tobacco as the communist regime doesn't have the skill to grow the premium tobacco. The Cuban cigars I have smoked recently (I am no expert) have been no different than Dominicans. These were purchased where I highly doubt they were counterfit

Eh. I doubt that seriously. Sounds like a sales pitch for Dominican tobacco or a wives tale.

The Cuban cigars have dropped in quality not due to lack of tobacco but because they rush the harvest and roll the cigars without the aging needed.
The old Cuban artisans exiled to Dominican, Honduras, Ecuador and others countries. They buy Cuban seeds but grow filler, binder, and wrappers locally and buy the specific components from other regions to accomplish the blends they desire.

I have a good friend that has a cigar store and distributorship in South Florida.
He agrees that Cuban brand cigars made in Dominican etc are better than Cuban made.
In Canada where Cuban cigars are legal, most are counterfeit and expensive.

My favorite has always been Padron 1964 Anniversario series... the smoothest cigar ever

Great call boys!

Had a great cigar Saturday, Acid 5 Maduro.

I probably have 30 of them in my humidor, they are awesome. They made them for the drew estates 5 year anniversary. That was about 15 years ago.... figure they need to last me the rest of my life

I like this thread, I’m getting ready to fire up a Romeo Y Julieta to try and forget all the friggin things I’m going to have to fix on my boat!

@GirlyGirl1999 that cigar posted used to be my all time favorite back in the 90's,nothing tasted better then that. Cohiba's could not hold a candle to those.

Originally I had great connections at JFK and a friend that would bring in the Montecristo #2, Romeo tuble dor and Hoyo de monterrey box (square press) cigar and an occasional Davidoff #2 from Cuba back in the 90's. The past 10-15 years or so they are not the same and the Dominican cigars seem to be the better choice. Avo classic and XO, Padron, La Gloria Cubana and some Partagas cigars are my favorites now.

I have a nice rosewood glass top humidor that is kept on the boat, only holds a 10-15 cigars, but is perfect because of it's size. Cigar Page is a great site that has very good prices.

Hey there, I like them, you are way out of my league on knowledge. I just started in with cigars about a year ago so still have a lot to learn. When my humidor starts to get low I usually buy a sampler pack from CI, the’ve been super reliable. I have a small travel case that I picked up at my local Burners store, it’s padded and has a small humidifier in it. The smoke in the picture is the first one of those I have tried, very nice and mellow plus easy to smoke so more are on the way. Have a great day!

That cigar back in the late 70's/80's sold for $2 US in Cuba. I was a kid on a fishing tournament and my uncle smoked them and told me what they were. I liked the smell of them as a kid. Later on down the line Cigar Aficionado gave them a write up and rated them in the low 90's, 92 or 93 if I remember correctly. Just a great cigar, now they are from the DR and very hard to find the actual Cuban cigar, too many knock off's to risk trying to find the original ones. Many of the guaranteed Cubans online are just re-banded cigars with fake seal on box. The newer ones have a red label and had from many sites, just not the same as the older ones. https://www.cigaraficionado.com/ratings/16336

I don't experiment with many different cigars, I generally have a Punch London Club or Elite Maduro. Sitting on the porch now, watching the rain with a London Club and a Moosehead.

I seldom if ever smoke anything other than maduros, unless I grab a couple Montecristo Classics when at the beer store.

+1 on Acid by Drew Estates, then Tabak, then Java. Had 2 of the 3 this past weekend on the boat....Ah.....
