420 DA Thread

So my boat is almost ready to splash but after wire wheeling off some growth, calcification from props, rudders, shafts and struts it occurred to me if I should somehow paint/coat these surfaces before it goes back in our brackish water? I never have before. This is well discussed amongst the "outdrive crowd" but what about us big bronze nibral types??? My running gear is cleaned well but totally raw! Anybody applying ANY product/paint/Primocon/Trilux33?
Use prop speed if you use the boat regularly, otherwise a good hull paint will do. I am in brackish water a lot. I use the boat every 5-7 days though

That is an impressive list of things done to your boat! Good luck with the sale. The new owner will be a very lucky guy!

Thank you very much. It will be a value to someone.

We were out for 4 days this weekend and I found myself always pushing down the port side with the tabs to level out the boat. It was based on wind etc.... just wondering if you guys experience the same thing?.... I had full water and full fuel

We just put our 2005 fully refinished 420 up for sale. It is expensive compared to most. We are upgrading to a larger boat. Text (see spec) for price. Placing with a broker soon.

Details can be found here: www.buyajet.com/somedayspecs.pdf
@Buyajet - You may have found your calling as a boat broker someday… You put more care and description in to your flyer than I have seen brokers do who tend to half ass it…

You are very kind. Calm waters to you always.

I have been fighting intermittent Dieselview and gauges for the past year. I sent Dieselview out to repair LCDs but they said can’t be repaired. It is the LCDs that are done. I’m at a loss for next steps or repairs. I’m open to suggestions. Anyone have an old DV interested in parting with ?

Villain I believe Tony Athens At Seborn marine sells a replacement system that is compatible to our smart craft system.

Dieselview display will have nothing to do with your gauges. Have you checked the connectors on the hubs? I would start there first. I would also get a vessel view gateway and connect to your MFD via NEMA 2000 as it will give you all of the data on your display. If you data is not coming through on it then you have other issues like a harness probelm.

Nope - he doesn't. He (Tony Athens) has a system that monitors the engines (RPM, Oil Pressure, Temperatures, etc) via the Cummins J1939 port and that's it. No fuel levels, rudder position, GPS or other ancillary's that Smartcraft monitors.
And, actually the Dieselview drives the smartcraft gauges so you need it for those.
So Villain Style, unless you desire to spend some significant money I would upgrade to a VV7 and call it a day. You will lose monitoring the generator but you gain a NMEA 2000 port in which every thing your VV7 see's the NMEA 2000 network will see. Net Net a better situation.

Ttmott. What else would I need for VV7? Or does Tony’s site have that? Would VV7 then send signals to 4in1 gauge like normal? I just don’t get this stuff.
The gauges used in our boats are Smartcraft System Link Gauges which require a master gauge for the data drivers. The DV or VV is the master gauge. You can make sure by looking at the gauges and if they are daisy chained together from the DV harness they are then System Link Gauges. Download and read this (System Link is discussed towards the back); it will help a lot -https://www.drev.se/Upload/DocumentManager/mercruiser/smartwire.pdf
The only down side of the VV7 is it doesn't accept the Smartcraft CAN V network data. The CAN V networks (there are a total of six networks in our Smartcraft dual engine boats of which two are the CAN V networks) are only used for generator data and if you have generator data on your DV you will not have it on the VV7. There are several discussions around here on this subject and how to work around it.
