It's been awhile since I've had a boat, and am thinking of jumping back in. I found a really clean 1997 Sea Ray 210 Signature with the 5.7 engine for $8,400. It has roughly 400 hours on it, has been maintained every year, and his been stored inside. From the looks of it, the guy took care of it.

Are there any specific concerns I should watch for in that year boat? Is the 5.7 a decent engine?

The 5.7 is a great engine. You might consider a survey... check for floor/transom/stringer rot.

Best of luck and welcome to CSR!

At sub 20 hours per year that thing was barely ever run! I'd have the engine looked over by a pro, compression checked, just to be sure she's still a solid runner....

The only flaw I could find is some cracking on the engine cowling. The seller said that at one time he had a ratchet strap over the top of the boat and it put too much downward force on it.

The cracking seems to be just in the surface coat of the cowling, and not through the fiberglass itself. Structurally it seems solid, like it would hold weight, etc.

Is this something I should be worried about? Is it fixable?

Crack from a strap? Eh. I call BS. Some heifer prolly laid out sinking her back side on top. Definitely a mid-westerner. :D

How’s that for political correctness?

I’d want to get that fixed to make sure water doesn’t leak in the engine.

I assume it’s a freshwater boat. That 5.7 is considered by some as the best engine mercruiser sells.

$8400 is a nice deal especially if a trailer is included.
