Is anybody just a little annoyed when they read CSR posts that are riddled with spelling and grammar errors? In the big scheme of things its a small thing but so easy to correct prior to hitting Post.
I for one tend to draw conclusions of a poster's intelligence and authority on a subject based on the way they communicate as I am sure we all do to some degree.
I'll be the first to admit that I am far from perfect especially when it comes to run-on sentences and proper use of punctuation. If we are going to take the time to comment on issues or answer member's questions, I think we should take 30 seconds to proof read and correct the errors that often are just a product of chubby fingers on an I phone keyboard.
It may just be that I am so used to seeing sloppy assignments turned in by my adult students. I constantly remind them that the reader of a document judges the producer of said document by their use of proper grammar, spelling and punctuation. I teach in the aviation maintenance industry so a sloppy log entry can be an indicator of how a repair or service was conducted.
Just wondering if it bothers anyone else? Sorry but I'm a little bored, tired of GF and Covid posts, finally have my boat updated as far as I'm likely to go and as far as I know, every thing is actually working.

CD, I tend to agree. It's difficult not to judge the writer, especially when it happens time and again and you only know him/her through the writings.

I'm old enough that when I was in school the teachers hammered grammer and spelling into us EVERY day. Papers turned in with spelling or grammer errors were returned so we could have the pleasure of re-doing them. (Hold on a moment whilst i reach around and pat myself on the back for winning the Handley School 5th grade spelling bee.)

OTOH I realize that some/many of these posts are done with a phone and spelling errors are not as easily caught.

I tend to forgive and forget.

Automatic "F" at the University of Iowa if you turned in a rhetoric assignment with a misspelled word in it. That was 1962 so things have probably changed. I find spellcheck frustrating when it corrects a word that was originally correct and turns it into a mistaken word. That happens all the time.

Loose. The bolt was loose.

Lose. Do not lose the election.

.

Did you lose the spelling bee on “grammar”?? Just kidding of course, proofed the first post thinking for sure I’d catch an error, but no luck. Damn you CarpeDiem...

knot shore wat ewe meen. i think everones speling on hear is grate
;)

Guilty! I’ve been called out on my grammar but in all fairness I use my phone talk to text most times. I’m always on the move when I post . Maybe when I’m retired like some of you fine gentlemen I’ll have the time to craft a grammatically correct post LOL, But in the meantime some of my post still might come out like Yoda talk( my home this is)

CD,
I have to admit that I am one of those posters. My grammar, as far as putting words down on a post, just flat out sucks. I always find myself coming back and editing over-and-over. Sometimes I post, step away, then come back and say; "WTF did I just write?".
My apologies.

MY FAVORITE ARE THE POSTS IN ALL CAPS FROM PEOPLE THAT CANT BE BOTHERED TO USE SENTENCE CASE PLUS THEY OFTEN DONT BOTHER TO USE PUNCTUATION EITHER IT MAKES FOR SOME VERY DIFFICULT READING I WILL OFTEN JUST SKIP RIGHT ON BY THE BOTH BUT IT STILL IS IRRITATING HOW ABOUT YOU.

I figured I would get some clever fun filled responses to this thread. No apologies required, I get a kick out of this site no matter the grammar. There are posters though and some of you know which ones they are, that you just can't take seriously or even really get mad at no matter the subject in part because of the lack of care they take in writing. I just treat them like our little buddies that took the little bus to school, God luv em'.

- when people say nucular instead of nuclear.
- The nucular principle being, you shouldn't say more importantly when you mean more important.
- more importantly, I hate when people say is is when a single is is more than enough.

There is a guy on one forum I'm on that uses run-on sentences to the extreme. A whole paragraph with no punctuation. Very hard to translate what he is trying to say.

Why are you yelling? :D

Us old people came from a world where there were secretaries that would take dictation and use a real typewriter. If they made a mistake they had to redo the entire letter or report. When I first got to have a secretary work for me, she walked into my office and said Ernie said you need to write a letter to the board. Then sat down and asked what I needed to say. Half hour later she left, hour later she came back and said here is your letter for your signature. I asked if I could read it first. Yes but do not change anything, I put in all you told me. It was 100% correct. I was under 30 at the time she was as old as my mother and she was the real boss. Gone are the day where you learn proper writing skills. Fundamental education is require to save us. I used to write contracts and I had lawyers and admins ensure they were correct. My first secretary could do what it now takes several people to do. Auto spell check is destroying our ability to communicate.
